The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the pre-trial investigation in this case was carried out by officials from the Panevėžys District and City Police Station, and the investigation was led by the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office, Lina Lomonienė.

The charges in the case were brought against a Panevėžys couple who were in their forties. According to the data of the pre-trial investigation, in the spring of 2018 the defendant KA learned that his wife, who worked in the city municipality of Panev ciudadžys, had started a novel with a co-worker.

The counselor broke off the relationship, but his and his girlfriend’s peace of mind began to be clouded by SMS messages and phone calls. The couple felt followed, the couple’s parents also received calls about the husband’s inappropriate relationship, and offensive comments spread through social media.

KA’s wife accused the co-worker of the novel of the two and demanded that they leave her alone. Meanwhile, his wife continued to pay close attention to her co-worker, even though he broke off his relationship with her. Feeling persecuted by the woman, the co-worker even wrote a complaint to the municipal administration.

After KA’s wife’s ex-lover was aggressively attacked in the fall of 2018 during a sports competition he attended, the husband turned to the police. A pre-trial investigation was launched for the violation of public order, but the couple also provided information about the persecution they were experiencing.

The investigation raised suspicions that the victim and his girlfriend may have been illegally tracked down. A search of the suspects’ home revealed more than 60 audio recordings of the conversations, as well as photos and other information collected.

Some of these recordings are telephone conversations, and the rest are secret audio recordings made from the smoking office and the official car of the Panevėžys city municipality. Officers from the pre-trial investigation were able to identify nearly 30 people whose conversations were secretly recorded. Seven of them have been identified as victims in this case. The man and his girlfriend who had a novel with the defendants were also recognized as victims in this case.

According to prosecutor L. Lomonienė, who led the pre-trial investigation, the defendants do not admit their guilt, but the data collected during the pre-trial investigation suggests that the spouses illegally collected information on private lives, illegally installed and used equipment special to track people.

The Penal Code provides several penalties for this, the most severe of which is imprisonment of up to 4 years. The case was transferred to the Panevėžys Chamber of the Panevėžys District Court.
