“We want to see that epidemiological situation in more detail, take a photo and then have the opportunity to observe, see what is changing there, how many are sick and things like that. “The main objective is not to discover the infected people, the objective is to see what the situation is like, to assess the situation,” the minister said at a press conference on Friday.
“We want to see what happens,” he added.
When asked if the current population survey was not sufficient to assess the situation, Mr Veryga explained that it was “not specific”.
“We also want to see those groups where there will be high contact so that we can capture some change, because active diseases alone don’t show the whole picture,” he said.
A. Veryga said that the secondary teachers will not be evaluated in the rapid tests because they did not express such a wish.
However, he stressed that in the future it is planned to test other groups in society through rapid tests: civil servants, social workers, points of sale, pharmacy workers.
At the time, on Thursday, speaking about teacher testing, the minister put more emphasis on the possibility of teachers detecting an acute infection.
“The fact that the formation of antibodies is detected does not mean that a person has really finished getting sick. (…) You can also identify some chimneys. Of course, we will not determine much, ”explained A. Veryga.
According to A. Veryga, this should provide a “certain security and confidence” to teachers or other employees of educational institutions belonging to risk groups.
However, this decision has been criticized by researchers, highlighting that it is not convenient to study teachers because it is not suitable for rapid tests for the early diagnosis of the disease. Minister Veryga himself has spoken of this before.
Researchers at Vilnius University found in May this year that rapid coronavirus tests for antibodies in blood show the best results 14 to 50 days after the first coronavirus symptoms or a positive molecular test (PCR), so they are not suitable for diagnosing current disease.
For masks during breaks, still under consideration
During a visit to the Vilnius Žirmūnai gym on Friday, Education, Science and Sports Minister Algirdas Monkevičius told reporters he supported proposals to force both teachers and students to wear masks during breaks.
“We support this charge, which is mandatory for everyone during breaks, because school leaders believe it too, and we have suggested to the operations manager that this condition be toughened, and it can be toughened,” he said.
“We spoke with specialists yesterday so that we could formulate this provision a little more imperative,” added the minister.
A. Monkevičius considered that it is possible that this procedure has already been approved, but A. Veryga later told reporters that such a decision does not yet exist and that it “still needs to be consulted”.
“Let’s talk. You must” measure the temperature “to see how the communities are prepared. Now it is difficult to do it, because they had to work a lot, preparing together for the management of flows and other things,” said the Minister.
“The logic would certainly be because it is an additional safeguard, but we need to see how realistic it is to implement it,” he added.
At the start of the new school year, educational institutions must manage student flows, ventilate facilities, disinfect surfaces and provide other measures for the prevention of coronavirus.
Protective masks are also recommended in schools if traffic cannot be controlled.
The country’s schools have completed the last school year remotely as a result of the quarantine announced in the spring, as the new school year approaches, the possibility that at least part of the teaching process will also be excluded cannot be ruled out. develop from home.
