The doctors were delegated by the Kaunas University of Health Sciences Hospital (LSMU), the Vilnius University Hospital (VUL), the Santara Clinic and the Panevėžys Republican Hospital (RPL).
The team of specialists was complemented by Marius Čiurlionis, advisor to the Ministry of Health (SAM), who will also direct this operations headquarters, as well as the Military Medical Officer, who works in the SAM Emergency Operations Management Center. Valdas Meškauskas and Maj. Aurimas Gusčius, as in Lithuania, will oversee logistics problems in Armenia.
According to Health Minister Aurelius Veryga, head of state operations at the state emergency level, Armenia is the country that really needs the help of doctors, competent specialists at the moment, to control the virus that has plagued the country.
“I would like to thank the doctors, specialists who did not face serious challenges and went to Armenia voluntarily, where they will share the best practices in our country and apply the lessons learned from us in practice,” said Minister A. Veryga.
According to him, every workforce, every managerial experience in handling this situation is very necessary in Armenia. Other European countries also send you expert assistance.
“Armenia is going through a difficult period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lithuania is always ready to help its partners as well. I am proud and grateful to the Lithuanian doctors and experts who will help the people of Armenia”, in turn, also thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius.
The team that went to Armenia, as noted in the SAM report, also brought along the necessary medical equipment and personal protective equipment. The team will provide humanitarian aid to Armenia for two weeks.
In Armenia, 18,033 cases of coronavirus infection were reported and 302 people died, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
