Lawyer Pavel Rebenok was killed at his home in Latvia on Sunday night, police said. Neighboring Interior Minister Sandis Girgen said investigating the murder would have top priority.
The minister, who said that the criminal world methods of the 1990s could not be allowed to return to Latvia, noted that Rebenok was already the third lawyer killed in recent years. So far, only one of the two previous murders has been investigated, he added.
Police have launched an investigation into the robbery in connection with the robbery, but Martini Kriekis, a lawyer who was previously appointed to the advice of Latvian pharmaceutical industry leader Olainfarm, who met with the killer on Saturday, believes it was a political murder.
Kriekis said Rebenok was visiting him on Saturday night and left home late. On the social network Twitter, M. Kriekis announced a prize of 20,000 euros for helping to catch the murderers.
Last March, while still chairing the Olainfarm board, Mr. Rebenok received threats and addressed the police and the State Security Service.
In 2003, P. Rebenokas became an unofficial advisor to the then Prime Minister Einaras Repšė on issues related to shipping and ports, later he was appointed advisor to the Minister of Finance on issues related to the port of Ventspils.
From September 2018 to April 2019, Fr. Rebenokas chaired the Olainfarm Council and in February 2019 he became a member of the Board of Directors of Freeport Riga.
