The torture room was equipped with a dentist chair, and the Dutch police ordered horrible tools, such as pruning shears, a saw, scalpels, and pliers.
Six suspects were arrested after a raid by armed law enforcement officers at the warehouse where the containers were located. The raid was carried out following the information of an operation organized by France and the Netherlands, which managed to penetrate the encrypted telephone network EncroChat.
“Six [konteineriai] used as prison cells where people could be kept tied up. Another container has the sole purpose of being a torture cell, “said Andy Kraag, head of the Dutch police central investigative unit.
A video filmed by police shows armed officers colliding with a complex in the southern city of Bergen, near Zom, south of Rotterdam.
The containers were soundproofed and the interior was covered with aluminum foil. According to the police, in this way, the criminals tried to make sure that the people inside could not be detected by heat-sensitive cameras. Shackles were tied to the floor and ceiling in all containers.
The kidnappings of people detained in these cells were “carefully planned,” authorities said. The criminals were divided into various groups, with fake weapons and police uniforms, vans, stop signs, and bulletproof vests.
A container, called a wiretapping “treatment room,” was equipped with a “dental chair with shackles on the arms and legs,” police said.
Officers found branch scissors, a saw, scalpels, pliers, handcuffs, finger clips, and tape in this container. Police said the measures were aimed at “torturing or, in any case, putting pressure on the victims.”
Dutch Police Chief Jannine van den Berg said the secret prison was found after French and Dutch policemen broke into EncroChat. The operation was announced last week; provided reasons for the arrest of some 800 people in various European countries.
“It just came to our attention then. This prison in the criminal world is one of those examples,” the official emphasized.
