During the warm-up, the 30-year-old kaunas made two fun throws and both times the puck flew 65-66 meters.
Vaclovas Kidykas, the last of the twelve participants to start the final, ripped the safe 64.05m on the first pitch and landed alone against the unexpectedly defeated Australian Matthew Denny (65.76).
However, the Lithuanian’s second pitch was not counted and after great pitches from Daniel Stahl (68.90), Lukas Weisshaidinger (66.65) and Simon Pettersson (66.58) A. Gudžius dropped to fifth place.
The positions of the leaders did not change after the third attempts. A.Gudžius threw the tool 63.82 m and, being in fifth place, he received three additional throws.
Slovenian Kristjan Čeh, who had just made it to the top eight, clocked 66.05m on the fourth attempt and pushed Andrius one notch lower, soon to be followed by Colombian Mauricio Ortega (64.08). A. Gudžius entered the sector in seventh place and although he improved his result (64.11), he allowed him to surpass only the South American representative from the previous year.
Before the fifth pitch, the Lithuanian walked in the warm-up zone for a long time, and then he walked onto the grass and focused on the sector for a few minutes. Still, it didn’t help: 62.81m and the same sixth place.
“Real men shoot sixth,” coach V. Kidykas likes to say. Unfortunately, this time the last launch was unsuccessful and the Lithuanian flag lit the sixth line of the classification in the final protocol.
Final results of the discus throw
“It just came to our notice then. It’s hard to say anything, but there are no excuses or excuses. I didn’t present myself the way I should have. Pity for those who supported, pity for those who believed. I didn’t live up to the expectations of the coach, the federation or the LTOK and I still don’t know why this happened. No matter what I did, no matter how hard I tried, there was no result for the medal, “the athlete did not hide after the show.
According to A. Gudžius, this time it was not psychology that really changed his leg.
“It just came to our notice then. I made some personal mistakes while still going to the competition. I don’t know why, but the body didn’t work the way it was supposed to. But again, this is not an excuse. Clearly how you looked. On the one hand, sixth place in the Olympics, where all the best come together, a good result, but … Expectations were the highest, I lived for that medal, I got up every day. And then such a show … It is disappointing ”, the athlete did not hide.
When asked if the trio of winners and other competitors’ results were surprised, A. Gudžius came back to himself again.
“It just came to our notice then. As I said before the start, the medal will take 67-68 meters. That was the case. Natural, normal. It’s a shame I wasn’t there today. I threw 67 meters all season, but missed. here. When psychology instructs you, you can control something. Now, sorry, I was hooked, even before the competition, from the warm-up, the waiting, to the first pitches. Somewhere I did something wrong. You need to understand this and do not repeat such mistakes “, – the athlete continued to beat himself.

It was especially uncomfortable for the athlete in front of coach V. Kidykas. “What will the coach save? We talk about technique, he says, we have to take a wider turn. Technically I tried to do it, but the muscles do not extract those tensions, I do not “stick out” those necessary amplitudes. The coach will not pull the drowning. When not, the coach cannot do anything. Unless you come and drop me, ”said the disc jockey.
A.Gudžius is the 2017 and 2018 world champion of Europe. Five years ago, at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, a 60.66m Lithuanian ranked twelfth.
“I will say half jokingly, half seriously. Since Rio, I have managed to improve six positions. I hope to improve six more in Paris, ”the athlete tried to keep in a good mood.
This season, A. Gudžius clocked the longest 68.62m and his personal record was 69.59m.

In the world rankings, the surname of A. Gujius is fourth. Ours is second only to D. Stahl, Jamaican Fedrick Dacres and L. Weisshaidinger, who did not reach the final.
In Tokyo, A. Gudžius failed to extend the beautiful Olympic traditions of our discus throwers.
In 1992, Roma Ubart won gold in Barcelona, and Virgilijus Alekna has up to three Olympic catches in his collection: he picked up gold in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, and bronze in Beijing in 2008.
Unsurprisingly, the Olympic champion from Tokyo was the Swede Daniel Stahl (68.90), who surpassed his compatriot S.Petersson (67.39) and the Austrian L. Weisshaidinger (67.07).
The Olympic record still belongs to Lithuanian Virgilijus Aleknas, who fell 69.89 in Athens in 2004.
