The gold record appeared in the history of Lithuanian sports gymnastics, when R. Tvorogalas landed on a blue carpet with an acrobatic descent.

For the first time in the European championships, the gold went to the representative of Lithuania.

For two decades of work, promotion after injury and the stubbornness to stay in an unpopular sport in Lithuania, R. Tworogal was rewarded on Sunday when he raised his fist, ending his performance at Mersin Stadium with jeweled precision.

And he himself was surprised that the wave of emotions did not wash over him.

“It just came to our attention then. They didn’t feel super emotions. I was happy with my performance, but I didn’t feel anything exceptional. 15 minutes said R. Vorogal, who returned from Vilnius to Turkey the next day after the golden performance. – I really don’t like showing emotions to the audience. He’s calm and this time it’s all over. “

His triumph came in the competition on the crossbar, the most impressive, but probably the most terrible for the athlete, where acrobatic exercises are performed on the crossbar at a height of 278 cm.

“It just came to our notice then. I did everything perfectly,” said Rvorogal delighted, scoring 14,800 points and pushing Croatian Tina Srbici and Israeli gymnast Alexander Miakinin below him on the awards podium.

R. Torogal also won bronze in parallel exercises, in a match that caused him three wrist fractures during his career.

“Somehow I didn’t think too much about the parallels. Thoughts keep spinning on the crossbar. There I aspired to first place ”, the gymnast gave priority to the baseline match.

To date, the most expensive trophy of his career has been the gold he won at the European Games in Minsk last year.

However, a new derivation of various sports competitions, which took place only in 2015. In Azerbaijan and in 2019. In Belarus, considered weaker than the European Championship.

“It is true that the feeling is similar. In terms of competition, this European Championship was more challenging. But according to the internal sentiment of retribution, the same, explained R. Vorogal. “Also, due to the coronavirus and the European Championship, not all the athletes came, there were few spectators, the hall itself was not too big, it did not seem like it was a European priority.”

Due to the pandemic, R. Tworogal had to follow the rules: walk everywhere with a mask, spray his hands with disinfectant, but there were no exceptional conditions.

“Only curfew on weekends. It was not recommended to leave the hotel, although it was not very prohibited. We didn’t give it ourselves: the conditions in Turkey were told by a Lithuanian athlete. “The meals are a little different, there was no buffet, everything was offered by the waiters.”

Champions began to grow in modest conditions

R. Tvorogalas was not the only Lithuanian representative to return to Vilnius with medals around his neck.

Gytis Chasažirov won gold in the free exercise competition and silver in the horse race in the junior competition.

“It turned out great,” Rvorogal said of the young colleague.

Black coaches train different coaches, their paths did not cross during preparation, so R.Tvorogal also briefly praised the young talent.

He himself did not hear praise for the rain from his coach Yevgeny Izmodenov, although he seemed happier than the European champion himself. “The coach said I was a great player,” Rvorogal recalled.

He himself was proud to have managed to advance to 2017 in the European Championship for the first time. world champion T.Srbičius, but added that due to the pandemic, competitors from Russia, Germany and England did not come to Turkey.

R. Tvorogalas himself had lost the rhythm of sporting life this year, when after the spring pandemic, he spent several weeks not working in Vilnius, but in the Mickūnai settlement, 20 km away.

“The pandemic had hit me so hard that I only recovered in the fall. Both physically and morally, it was very difficult to go through the same hard work again. I really would not want the corridors to close again,” said the gymnast, who to He often trains twice a day.

Previously, his second home was a sports complex in Belarus, near Minsk, where in the desert R.Tvorogal had better conditions to prepare for competitions and grow in a more competitive environment.

But this year there were no trainings in Belarus due to the pandemic, so I had to prepare in Lithuania.

Conditions in Vilnius remained modest, as they had been since the beginning of his career, when the five-year-old was more impressed by the idiots in the hallway than by the daily entertainment in kindergarten.

Due to the repairs, the gymnasts had to move their training sessions to another room in the Naujamiestis district on Vytenio Street, but according to the athlete, the conditions are even worse than they were ”.

Perhaps your achievements will be the impetus for your beloved sport?

“I want to believe, but I will not believe it until I see it. I have heard the words beautiful for a long time, but everything remains in tongues. As it will be, it will be good”, – R. Tvorogalas shook his hand.

Simply explain that conditions get worse and results improve: “Work every day.”

Growing ambitions also in the Olympic Games

The biggest goal for next year is the Tokyo Olympics, to which R. Vorogal has already won a ticket in the fall of 2019 in competition in Germany.

He made his Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro four years ago and was ranked 19th in Brazil.

Ambitions will increase further next year.

“I would like to participate again as well as possible and, of course, reach the final on the crossbar, and then the top three. Of course, there will be rivals from China, Japan and everywhere, it will be 3-4 times more difficult, “said R. Vorogalas around 2021.

And what will be the end of 2020, he does not know yet.

The avalanche of congratulations should look like a snowball when you return, but so far you are neither hot nor cold about it. After flying home through Istanbul early in the morning, he spent most of Monday in bed.

“It just came to our knowledge then. I came back, I fell asleep. When he comes back with a gold medal, he sleeps the same as before, said the European champion.” And tomorrow I will train again.
