“We hope to have information on the second volume, even if it is small, maybe a third in the next few days. If the supply were made in those places, even on several occasions, the forecast would be that in January we could say that the medical community is vaccinated and we have stronger positions in the first bulwark of the health system “, said the minister in the LRT program” Topic of the day “.

He said it was already planned how and in what order doctors would be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The minister also acknowledged that it is this vaccine, developed by Pfizer, that will be difficult to vaccinate due to its storage, transportation and packaging characteristics.

According to him, a Pfizer vaccine package contains 975 doses that must be consumed over time, so it will be easy to use in large centers, but smaller treatment facilities can struggle.

“(…) Today we have to speak responsibly, based on what we know: we are prepared for the complex process of Pfizer vaccination, all the schemes for the medical community will be thought out, and there are still questions about society, we will have to work and find answers, depending on what vaccines will be available, ”said A. Dulkys.

He also stressed that the procedure for vaccinating the rest of society will be decided by the expert council formed by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, but the exact information will be known only when it is clear what and what quantities of vaccine will reach Lithuania.

The BioNTech and Pfizer vaccine is currently the only one licensed in the European Union.

Based on the joint purchase of vaccines with other EU countries, the first doses of this vaccine are scheduled to be delivered to Lithuania on Saturday.

At the urgent meeting of the Government called on Tuesday night, at the proposal of the European Commission, it was decided to acquire another 616 thousand. dose of this vaccine. They should arrive in the second half of next year.
