A deadly disease ruined the life of a 17-year-old Šilutė: his mother only asks for one

No symptoms of his son’s illness were revealed, L. Lubytė told the tv3.lt news portal. A fateful event occurred at school, after which the family heard that Diamond had a malignant brain tumor.

“There were no signs and he didn’t feel anything until he hit his head at school. The main diagnosis is a malignant brain tumor, ”said the mother.

The disease struck again

Reconciling the idea that the son had brain cancer was extremely difficult. As soon as they heard the diagnosis, the family was in shock and could not imagine what to expect in the future.

“The first reaction, of course, was to sit down. Then came the shock, I didn’t understand anything, and later, when I found myself in the Kaunas clinics, when they transferred me to the oncology department after the operation, there was a real reaction: shock and not understanding what was happening., a lot of fear. There are many different sensations, without knowing what will happen next, we will succeed or not “, recalls the interlocutor.

Mom tried for a long time not to let Diamond know she was sick so she wouldn’t experience unnecessary stress. The son heard the actual diagnosis from friends in the hospital, then reprimanded the family, but things quickly calmed down – the treatment went well.

“I hid for a long time and Diamond didn’t know what he had for a long time because he was trying to avoid it. He found out very late what his real illness was. We tried to say for as long as possible that it was a lump that operated in a similar way. Then he learned the true diagnosis from friends in the clinics. It was harsh, he chided me for not telling me what he really was. But then he did not emphasize much, he did not take it seriously in his head. He already knew then that the treatment was going well, it was easily accepted, there was not much anger or sadness ”.

Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy performed on the diamond benefited – the disease went into remission. Laima and her son were already preparing to return to normal life, but like thunder in the clear sky, the disease returned.

“The first disease, when it was, we were completely cured, we were in remission for almost two years. On August 31 of last year, he returned to us, but now to the spine. We are being treated for the second time. We went back to the clinics and everything went back to the beginning, ”Laima said.

Fortunately, the predictions are good so far: An MRI scan just before Diamond’s birthday showed that the disease was slowly receding. However, when the disease returned, reconciliation was even more difficult and the future is still uncertain.

“It was more difficult because we were both ready and willing to go back to normal life, Diamond was ready to go back to school, during the years I was in remission, I couldn’t leave one at home, but I tried, I updated my grades, I was ready to go back to work, but again I stopped everything. We both live in house-clinics, clinic-houses. There are no prospects ahead, nothing to plan, nothing to know. I can’t leave one at home, I have to be with him. Life stops, we turn in a circle and everything ”, the interlocutor does not hide his resentment and sadness.

The course of treatment is not easy: Diamond has found it very difficult to recover from chemotherapy and now, with treatment at home, his health is not very high either.

“This time, when chemotherapy was applied, he was very poor because he received strong chemistry and had difficulty transporting it, going to the hospital for a month, three weeks. Three weeks is very little. We had to go home for the new year, it was more than a month because after chemotherapy I felt very bad, the blood tests were very bad and I felt bad. Now the treatment has changed: we have oral chemistry, it is home. “

Sisters and brothers lacked a mother

Laima laughs that Diamond is rich in brothers and sisters: the 5 and 13 year old sisters and the older brother are at home. The hardest part for them was spending time without their mother when she and Diamond stayed in hospitals for a long time and were almost absent from home.

“The hardest part for them was that they had to live without his mother. The little one was only 11 months old, he had to leave because we spent a lot of time in the clinics. After three months we were there, sometimes only to come back on weekends. and go out again. It was probably worse for them that their mothers were not at home and not for a week, two, but for months, “said L. Lubytė.

However, children agree with each other and, as in all families, everything happens, both anger and beautiful moments. And Diamond shows his character, so he often has to give up.

“They communicate, they take care of everything, just because Diamond has no strength and is more nervous, very often it is the brothers and sisters who have to resign. There are fights because the Diamond is with his character. It is not known if he was spoiled or if the disease affected him greatly. There is everything, both together and in peace. Of course, everyone needs to land more often, but somehow they agree, ”said the interlocutor.

Diamond

The woman says that family life has not changed much: the man is working, the other children are studying, only she and Diamond have been locked up at home and put themselves into a routine. Plus, after all, other kids also need help with homework, dressing everyone, feeding them, and keeping order at home.

“Others live their lives, only Diamond and I stay like that. The man works, the children study, they go to school as if they had gone. Of course, since Diamond is in poor health, our vacations are very limited, neither to go out nor to leave, because Diamond does not have the strength, we cannot afford much. Everyday life is like this: Diamond on the road in the morning, it seems to him that he is 17 years old, he should be independent, but he is not. You cannot leave him alone, Because all kinds of problems happen, that’s how you feel: diamonds, medicine, diamonds, you eat, because you have problems with food, you eat very badly. So at home and we sat down. Just rotate the whole day into your routine. home “.

Diamond himself had to give up many of life’s pleasures; Before he was an energetic and sporty boy, and now he spends his days indoors, rarely going out to the garden. The mother does not hide her disappointment, it is not clear what future awaits her.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Before the illness he was very athletic, very active, energetic and now he is just sitting, lying in bed. He goes out to the patio for 10-15 minutes and needs someone to take care of him. staying away for a long time, his life has changed a lot. Now that he has just finished tenth grade, we don’t know what to do next, there is no idea what he will be able to do next because the forces are very limited. We are just waiting and we don’t know what will happen next ”, Laima does not hide her resentment at the change in her son’s life.

When asked how she manages not to break down, who has been battling her son’s illness for many years, and how Diamond manages to live with the diagnosis, Laima laughs: his mother can’t break down.

“As a mother, I cannot break, as I say, I cannot get sick, or cry, or break. Everything happens to a diamond, sometimes it breaks, visibly tired. No friends or anything, he’s alone all the time, that’s sometimes everything he comes up with. There are outbursts of anger, but let’s get over it, let’s get over it.
