Economy Minister Aurin Armonait says that temporary economic difficulties due to sanctions against the Belarusian regime are justified because human rights are a fundamental value.
In my opinion, temporary economic difficulties are justified when defending human rights, freedoms and common fundamental values of amines, says Economy Minister Aurin Armonait in an interview with BNS.
Any sanction, be it Belarus, Russia, Iran or any other country in the world, has economic consequences. But they are not being led in vain to defend human rights, he says.
According to the minister, the actions of the Belarusian regime must have consequences, which is why Lithuania supports the European Union (EU) sanctions package for the Belarusian regime.
Due to sanctions imposed by the European Union, the accounts of the Belarusian sanatorium in Druskininkai were frozen in December, as the sanatorium is managed by the administration of the President of Belarus.
The Belarusian government also says it could stop oil exports through Klaipeda ports and divert cargo to Russian ports. The campaign of the petroleum products exporter Belaruskaja nephtenaja recently decided not to renew its long-term contract with the freight forwarding company LTG Cargo, but continued to transport cargo through Klaipd on demand and without obligation.
Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Cichanouskaya called on Lithuania to impose sanctions on Belaruskalij, a trade producer that uses the Klaipda port, if it continues to persecute critics of the regime.
A. Armonait says that Lithuania cannot impose sanctions in this particular case, but supports European sanctions. Belarus is not yet in the stream of European sanctions, the representatives of the Lithuanian government do not comment on whether to support its inclusion in the black stream.
