Laima hopes that after the second dose of the vaccine, her mother will be able to meet her grandchildren and great-grandchildren again.
According to the woman, the grandmother did not experience any exceptional side effects after vaccination. The sensation was similar to that seen after the now common annual flu shot.
“It just came to our notice then. It’s been a week now. It felt a little worse the next day, but exactly the same as the flu shot. You want to be in bed like a horrible shaking. No health or energy.

The vaccination process is exceptional
Laima, who was also a pharmacist, had just signed up as a volunteer at a local medical clinic after learning that the vaccines would be arriving in the UK. She explains that although you can get vaccinated against flu and other diseases with her license, the coronavirus vaccine is slightly different and pharmacists are not working with it yet due to special conditions.
The woman told about the process of transporting and preparing the vaccine for use.

The vaccine can be stored in the refrigerator for five days. The vial it is taken out of the refrigerator and taken with great care to the office where the vaccination is carried out.
The vial is used ten times before dilution. It is not shaken, but is applied between two fingers, up and down, very carefully, slowly. I’ve never seen someone act so careful, probably more than an egg if you kept it, ”Laima explains.
The vaccine in the vial is then diluted with a sodium chloride solution and divided into five portions to prepare the syringes for vaccination. The following procedure is as usual: 0.3 ml. fluid is injected into a muscle. After vaccination, wait another fifteen minutes and watch for side effects.
“In fact, six doses would be enough in the vial, but everywhere the recommendations are only for five, because it was feared that the last dose would be too low and not work properly.
Once the dose is prepared, it is valid for six hours. Of course, it is not like that, because he is vaccinated immediately, ”says Laima, who has seen the vaccination against Covid-19 closely.
Vaccine delivery at the nursing home turned into a celebration
At the clinic where Laima volunteered, the first batch of vaccines was available for 975 people. All vaccinations were vaccinated within three days. Of the nearly 1,000 priority people, none have abandoned the vaccine.
“I asked him, I was very curious because when I read the comments it makes me very scary and grainy. They told me there were no older people in that group who gave up.
For the younger ones, it may be that they give up because they think that everything will happen. Older people know that if they get sick, they may not survive, ”says Laima.
She says she has heard stories from other doctors that when they brought the vaccine to her grandparents’ house, they prepared for the vaccine as the biggest celebration.

When asked what to say to those who don’t believe in the vaccine and say it developed too quickly and is therefore unreliable, Laima begs the question: do we have a choice?
“I could say that the vaccine is done on time and not too fast. Can you imagine the whole world focused on one goal?

Laima claims that the second batch of the vaccine will arrive at his clinic in exactly three weeks, on January 6. And then not only will her mother get her second dose, but Laima herself will return to the vaccination room to help the doctors who work there.
