The statistical prevalence of COVID-19 in the country has not yet been evaluated.

“It just caught our eye then. The investigation will start when SAM decides it’s already needed,” said Birutė Stolytė, a representative from the BNS department.

The Ministry of Health says that such a study would only be carried out if the epidemiological situation in the country worsens.

“By government decision, a tool was developed that allows a statistical study of the prevalence of COVID-19 disease to be started quickly if the epidemiological situation in the country deteriorates,” SAM spokesman Julijanas Gališanskis told BNS.

“In that case, the investigation would be initiated by a separate order from the ministry,” he added.

In late May, the government commissioned the Department of Statistics to carry out a statistical study on the prevalence of coronavirus infection for July 2021, which would collect data on possible signs of the disease and the prevention and management measures applied.

The survey would be carried out by interviewing the Lithuanian population anonymously. The questionnaire will be completed online or on a mobile application.

People will be asked to provide certain data on a regular, weekly basis, such as information on how they feel about possible symptoms of the disease, the incidence of chronic diseases, the provision of disinfectants in the workplace, etc.

The collected data would be displayed on a map, which would make it possible to assess the situation according to the regions, districts, cities and streets of the country.

According to the Ministry, having these data would allow a faster response to decisions related to the examination of patients, for example, only when there is suspicion of a threat of focal and massive disease in a certain region.

In late March, Statistics Lithuania developed a set of virtual maps to analyze various statistics related to the coronavirus.
