New fraud methods are spreading in Lithuania in an instant: after just one call, a huge bill at the end of the month

“We have to be very careful, because during this pandemic, they were even more active and applied methods that even the most observant can grasp,” said the journalist at the beginning of the program.

“When it comes to phone scammers, there are four more popular ways. First, it is a fraudulent call abroad when a message is sent to a person and they are urged to do something very quickly by giving a foreign number. A person calls you, it is a great loss for him, because generally the number is not from the EU and it is very expensive. Another way is to pretend to be a technical support professional. “A person from the service of any company is called and it is said that a technical error has occurred, so they want to connect to their system,” says the journalist.

According to her, getting caught on a scam hook at the end of the month can surprise you with a huge bill.

In this way, they can find logins in email and other accounts. There is also a spread of fraud in Lithuania, when a company is intended to be a company. Congratulations, it is said that we are processing something with that person’s data, and then that person clarifies the data to a suitor who is only pretending to be a representative of that company, and the fourth way is a form of fake redirect. Then it is said that to do one thing or another, click on the unit and the person, when clicking on the unit, is redirected to a beautiful number, where they can receive a very large bill at the end of the month, “says G. When asked if Lithuania differs from other countries in the world, the journalist said that fraudsters in Lithuania seem to be applying the latest methods to the Lithuanian context.

“I think the trends of Lithuanian criminals are like copied and adapted to our market: what are the current problems and issues that people are concerned about? But in general, phone scams are one of the most popular forms of fraud in the world. In the past, phone scammers seemed to call and speak with the voice of a robot, which was a few years ago, “she says.

Today, criminals even discover a lot of additional information about the person they are going to cheat.

“Criminals have done their homework and collected personal data about those people, such as finding out about a job, a university from which they similarly graduated. There is another new way when a person is called by two criminals. One pretends to be a bank employee and the other calls the bank and pretends to be that person.

Anyone talking to someone can say that a call was made from their bank and a system error occurred, so we want to clarify the details. For example, a busy person may not even think that calling here is not from the bank, and may even say a personal identification number. When asked how to protect herself, the interviewee said that she should first be very careful and critical when someone encourages her to act quickly.

“First of all, you should talk to your grandparents so that if someone calls you pretending to be you, your grandparents will call you back and tell you. My grandmother also recently tried to be tricked by a scam suitor, but she called my cousin and asked him if he really needed help or if he really needed to give his friend the money.

It is also necessary to understand that if somewhere someone calls to do something, to pay money as soon as possible, to send something, it must be taken into account. It’s probably not even possible to call him from the bank and tell him that a technical problem has occurred, that we no longer have the data and we need to clear it up. You should always think to whom you send the information and avoid adding your personal data. You also need to change your passwords regularly, “recalls the caller.
