According to the ministry, these and other measures are foreseen in the decision of the chief of operations, the health minister, Aurelius Veryga, to guarantee public safety in places where larger meetings may present a risk of coronavirus infection (COVID-19 ).

“Although some of them are of a recommendation nature, public awareness, which has helped to successfully overcome the first wave of coronavirus in Lithuania, is expected to maintain a stable situation in the country and continue,” the SAM report said.

A. Veryga’s decision stipulates that people who are ill or who have symptoms of an acute respiratory infection, or who are subject to mandatory or recommended isolation, may not work on public transportation.

It is recommended to separate the drivers from the passengers by partitions or to maintain a distance of at least two meters. In the absence of such partitions, drivers are also recommended to wear protective gear that covers the nose and mouth.

Selling travel tickets on public transport is not recommended.

It is recommended to carry as many passengers as there are seats on public transport. If standing passengers are transported, a distance of at least one meter between them must be guaranteed.

It is also recommended not to sit face to face unless they are members of the same family, close relatives.

All public transport vehicles should be equipped with hand sanitizers in a location that is clearly visible and convenient for passengers and that information on preventive measures for coronavirus infection is provided in a clearly visible location.

It is recommended to mark the waiting areas in the queue at the passenger embarkation and disembarkation points. There must be a distance of at least one meter between the rows.

It is also mandatory to ensure that frequently touched surfaces such as handles, handrails, etc. are regularly cleaned and disinfected on public transport.

Cleaning and disinfection of the public transport vehicle must be carried out at least once a day.
