Four Zararasans will soon be tried for gunshots and stick fights. After the prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Tomas Dzikas, drafted the indictment, this case was transferred to the court for examination.

G. B. and V. K., 26 years old, R. Č. and V. S., 46, are accused of violating public order on the night of August 25, 2019, acting in a group of accomplices.

According to the pre-trial investigation, three young men were attacked in Zarasai that night. Attackers hiding their faces under cloth masks began to hit and kick them, as well as to hit them with metal sticks and fired multiple times from an unidentified weapon. Then they got in the car and left.

The youths, who were struck by lightning, avoided serious injuries, although one of them had a bullet stuck in his leg. Experts later discovered they had minor health problems. According to investigative officials, the young residents of Zarasai did not know the motives of the attackers, who had suffered without reason.

One of the suspects, V.K., has also been charged with illegal drug possession without the purpose of distributing them. The next day, after a fight during his home search, an aluminum brochure containing the drug, the crushed cannabis, was found in a farm building. During the search, officers found three baseball bats at the home of the two defendants.

The pre-trial investigation in this case was conducted by investigators from the Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Police of the Utena County Chief Police Commissariat.

The Penal Code provides for public works, fines, restriction of liberty, arrest or imprisonment of up to 2 years for violation of public order. The case was transferred to the Zarasai Chamber of the Utena District Court, according to a report released Monday by Rasa Stundžienė, Chief Specialist in the Communication Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office (Panevėžys).
