Euroleague debutant Saint Petersburg forward Zenit Matthew Ponitka He named which Polish basketball players he considered the best.

Among them was the longtime player of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Marcinas Gortatas, but two more players, according to M.Ponitka, are better.

“Marcin was a great player: for many years he played at a solid level in the NBA and popularized basketball in our country. He played with Steve Nash, Dwight Howard and other stars, he was nicknamed” Polish Hammer “and rode a tank (laughs) .

Thanks to Marcino, Poland was known throughout the world. I respect him and his career a lot, but I don’t think he was the best Polish player of all time. What do I consider the best? I am going to name Miečyslaw Lopatk and Adam Wojcik, ”said a representative from the Zenit club.

In 1960–1972, M. Lopatka participated in up to four Olympic Games and won many titles as a player and strategist.

For his part, A. Wojcik, who left Anapilin in 2017 for leukemia, was the leader of the Polish team and played very successfully in the Euroleague for several seasons.

During the 2001-2002 Euroleague season, the Pole recorded an average of 18.4 points for the Peristeri team in Athens.
