Spend delicate moments: even a broken sky did not prevent Lithuanians from singing the hymn

In the evening, at 9 pm, a national anthem was played at the Mindaugas Bridge in Vilnius. Hundreds of people gathered in the rain to greet President Gitanas Nausėda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė.

Raimundas Daubaras, the leader of the National Anthem initiative worldwide, says the coronavirus crisis that rocked the planet this year has forced them to look for new ways to celebrate, especially in countries that have been hit by the pandemic.

“The national anthem lives in people, Lithuanians across the world, lives here with us, but the influence of this year’s coronavirus is enormous,” Daubar told BNS on Monday.

According to him, respecting safety, the compatriots were invited to sing the hymn at a safe distance.

“We call the bridges, on the docks, where they sing against each other, the coasts separate, but at the same time connect. And as we develop this project, we hear the saying” let’s sing at a safe distance from the flag “: the objective is that people bring the flag, stretch it among them and let this flag unite us, and at the same time be safe, “said the initiative’s leader.

R. Daubaras realizes that the idea, which was implemented for the 12th time since 2009, has become an event that unites Lithuanians worldwide, from Brazil to Singapore, from Canada to New Zealand.

“Throughout Europe, wherever there are Lithuanians, it is celebrated everywhere, not in the capital, but through various cities, through various, albeit small, places. Historically, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Argentina are so strong as the Lithuanian communities, and the first to start celebrating is Australia, Zealand and Japan, ”says R. Daubaras.

The coronation of Mindaugas as King of Lithuania on July 6, 1253 is celebrated on State Day.

This day was declared a national holiday in 1990, when Lithuania regained its independence. Last year, the Seimas announced July 6 and National Anthem Day.
