The WHO clarified that it was not aware of the first cases of coronavirus outside the Chinese services.

According to the revised virus timeline, the WHO China office provided information on “viral lung disease” on December 31, based on the Wuhan Health Commission website.

The first version of the timeline, published on April 9, stated that the Wuhan City Health Commission reported cases of pneumonia on December 31. How this information reached the Geneva-based WHO was not detailed.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference on April 20 that China’s first report of coronavirus cases had been received. However, it was also not said whether it was provided by the Chinese services or other sources.

In response to the report, the WHO, according to its own data, asked the Chinese authorities to provide more information on January 1 and 2. This request was met on January 3.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has repeatedly accused the WHO of favoring China and the inadequate response to the new coronavirus. As a result, Trump initially suspended U.S. contributions to the WHO and finally announced his country’s withdrawal from the organization in late May.
