The Run of Hope, featuring only women and girls, is part of a unique event called St. Magdalen’s Night, and the event itself, for the prevention of breast cancer and for women already in the field of battle, will cover a variety of topics related to breast cancer. Cancer.
“First, I want to answer the question of why we called our event Noche de Santa Magdalena. At the same time, this is a great opportunity to dispel the myth of one of the most prominent women of our era.
Hundreds of millions of people died believing that Santa Magdalena was a prostitute. However, in a decree issued by Pope Francis, Mary Magdalene is called Apostle of the Apostles. In this way, the leadership of the Church points out that it is necessary to rethink the dignity of women and the greatness of the mystery of God’s mercy.
Mary Magdalene belonged to the closest circle of Jesus’ disciples. She was the first to meet the risen Christ and she hoped to spread this message to the apostles. Herein lie the roots of the “Run of Hope” event. I would like to remind you that the birthday of the city of Hope, located in Klaipeda, is July 22, because it is on this day, when we celebrate the feast of Saint Magdalena, that we receive the sign from Heaven to establish the Oncology Center of San Francisco. Our message is: Live and you will never get sick! But the main element of life mentioned is the person close to you, to whom you carry the message, “said Brother Benedict.
Last year’s event program included a call for a preventive exam for melanoma and skin cancer. Doctors consulted and screened many people – there was a long queue of people who wanted to be screened throughout the event. Two people heard the diagnosis of cancer disease and others were recommended to report to Klaipeda University Hospital for further examination as soon as possible.
Why do we check the teeth but not the breasts?
This year, the event, organized by the City of San Francisco de la Esperanza, the Lithuanian Breast Cancer Association, the San Francisco Oncology Center and the Municipality of Klaipeda City, will take place on July 18. and will address the issue of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer disease of women both in the world and in Lithuania. According to statistical calculations, breast cancer can affect every eighth woman. And while there is a lot of talk about breast cancer, there are still very few women participating in the screening program, and even fewer breasts are being screened on their own initiative.
Nowadays, it is natural to check many things: visit a gynecologist, a dentist, do a blood test, etc. once a year, but the breasts are rarely checked. There are programs for women from the age of 50, to which they are invited quite actively and, often with great difficulty, are invited.

However, one in five women with breast cancer is under the age of 50 and does not belong to the age group targeted by the program. Therefore, it should be kept in mind that a breast exam is as necessary as a dental consultation. The doctor decides how often they should be checked, but the most important thing is for the woman to go to him and find out how often he will have to be examined in the future.
Therefore, during the event, specialists will give lectures at the St. Francis Oncology Center to draw the attention of the public and patients to the main aspects of breast cancer diagnosis and the most relevant problems during and after the disease. Consultations will be provided by a reconstructive plastic surgeon.
The most important responsibility is forgotten.
At night, after all the lectures and inspections, there will be a “Run of Hope” or “Walk of Hope” (it will be possible to walk the same distance of 3.5 km), probably the most sensible culmination. Only women and girls will symbolically bring hope to the St. Francis Oncology Center.
By the way, running corresponds to the cup between clubs of Lithuanian race enthusiasts, since the time of overcoming the distance will be officially measured. All participants will receive medals designed by Brother Benedict himself. The women’s relatives are also invited to participate in the concert, which will take place after the race.

Donations collected during the event for participation will be used for the publication of the School of Patients with Breast Cancer. Currently, the school where sick women receive information on how to live with the disease has moved to the online space, but many older women do not have access to this material due to lack of skills or lack of resources. Therefore, you want to combine all of these conferences into a separate publication that will be available to everyone without exception.
