Viktor Stolbun was born in 1933 in Moscow to a family of neuropathologists. However, he was unable to complete his medical sciences: he was expelled from the institute. In 1956, he graduated from the Moscow Part-Time Pedagogical Institute with a degree in Russian language and literature.
After briefly working at the school, he retrained as a neuropathologist and began working in psychiatric hospitals. At that time, he was studying severe mental illness and its impact on the appearance of gastric and lung pathologies.
In 1970-1980, V. Stolbun established his own informal clinic. He claimed to be able to cure anyone of alcohol dependence. At that time, he became famous for developing an original methodology for various addictions and schizophrenia.
So far it has not been officially clarified, be it a community, a medical institution, a sect or a specific children’s camp. According to the people who got there, V. Stolbun offered to cure virtually everything from cancer and asthma, offered an “innovative” methodology for teaching and developing children. He became known across the country as an eccentric scientist treating schizophrenia and alcoholism.
The sectarians said that all the families were generally included in the commune. Stolbun himself argued that “wives must be with alcoholic men, because alcoholism is a common problem and an alcoholic man cannot heal alone.” Children and adults were “treated” with local anesthetics, weak electricity, and public humiliation. The members of the sect had to constantly work, behave modestly and obediently. V. After spending her childhood in the sect, Anna Sandermoen told MBK that she taught children in the commune according to a non-standard program. Theatrical performances were created, they sang in the choir, they walked together and did a lot of agricultural work. All this was accompanied by constant violence and psychological terror.

Despite the sect receiving government attention, there were quite influential actors in its ranks who not only protected the commune but also supported it financially.
In this millennium, the sect was already classified as totalitarian, and V. Stolbun, along with his “family”, was forced to hide and constantly change his place of residence. In 2005, a psychiatrist died and his followers were unable to maintain the sect and he collapsed. Only a few students adopted the “alternative way of treating life’s diseases” and started their own businesses.
