The Ministry of Transport and Communications reports that “to guarantee the smooth and efficient work of the Lithuanian Highway Administration”, Vitalijus Andrejevas, the head of LAKD, is dismissed from his current position by order of the Minister. Andreyev says he will appeal the decision.

Currently, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has approved an action plan for the reorganization of the Highway Directorate, according to which by September 1. The Lithuanian Road Administration budget institution under the Ministry of Transport and Communications must be transformed into a state-owned company.

According to the report of the Ministry, V. Andrejev is dismissed in accordance with the Government Resolution “On the transformation of the Lithuanian Budgetary Institution for Highway Administration of the Ministry of Transport and Communications into a state company”. V. Andrejev says he does not know the reasons why Minister J. Narkevičius made the decision to remove him and promises to appeal the dismissal to court.

V. Andrejev stated that he had learned about the decision to fire him from the media by participating in the event of the presentation of the new brand of Lithuanian Railways.

“I understand from the press release that the decision has been made, I have to know the reasons for the decision. It is not possible to remove an official from office without a reason, the law does not provide for it,” V. Andrejev told BNS.

“I have not committed any irregularity known to me and if the decision (on the dismissal – BNS) is due to any alleged irregularity, I will certainly complain,” he added.

V. Andrejev recently criticized the Minister of Transport and Communications, Jaroslav Narkevičius, for allegedly inadequate funds for asphalting gravel roads and road repairs.

Remigijus Lipkevičius, Director of the Administration Department of this institution, will temporarily assume the position of Director of Highway Administration from Friday.
