Mr. Ratzinger, like his brother, was a clergyman. For many years he conducted the famous Regensburger Domspatzen (Cathedral Sparrows) children’s choir.
Benedict XVI unexpectedly revisited his older brother a few days ago. According to the Regensburg diocese, the personal meeting was “a sincere wish of both brothers of honorable age.”
“Perhaps this is the last time that both brothers, George and Josef Ratzinger, will be seen in this world,” the spokesman said. During the five days of Pope Emeritus’s stay in Germany, the brothers met nine times. These meetings affected them remarkably well, the sources said.
Mr. Ratzinger was almost completely blind and did not get out of bed.
During his stay in Bavaria, Benedict XVI also visited his former home in Pentling, the grave of his parents and sister, and the Regensburg Cathedral. The pope emeritus lives in a monastery in the Vatican.
