The rate ranges from € 13.5 to € 540, depending on the type of car and the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) if it exceeds 130 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

If emissions reach 131-140 grams, the tax will be € 30-540 for diesel cars, € 15-270 for gasoline and € 13.5-243 for gasoline. If CO2 emissions exceed 301 grams, the tax will be € 540 (diesel), € 270 (gasoline) and € 243 (gas) respectively.

The least polluting cars will cost € 30, € 15 and € 13.5 respectively.

This tax was decided in the Seimas in December 2019, after the adoption of the Motor Vehicle Registration Tax Law. It was originally slated to take effect in January 2020, later postponed to July 1 to give more time to prepare for tax administration.
