The pearl of a small town: due to clothing, even from neighboring countries come and go, with bags

Geltonas namelis has been operating in Biržai for almost 15 years and is well known to the locals. New and used clothing for women, men, children, antiques and cleaning products are sold here, and the range is no less than our usual clothing stores.

The popularity of the place is also evidenced by its attendance. Here, when we visited our guests on Thursday, we had to intelligently rotate among shoppers – there were far more than we expected to see on a business day.

“We have a small chain of stores located in Rokiškis, Panevėžys and Kupiškis. We also had a store in Pasvalys, but the quarantine adjusted the plans, “said the store’s owner, Rasa. During the most intense period of the coronavirus uproar, some companies have launched into online commerce, but in unit sales, such transformation is not easy and requires additional hands. And when the virus fills the new employee’s back, he says, there isn’t much responsibility.

The owner of the store says that he receives guests not only locals, but also visitors from other cities and sometimes from neighboring countries. Advertising on social media, while not great, is said to be really worth it in this regard.

“Sometimes buyers come from big cities, they buy ‘heavily’ for a few hundred,” said the businesswoman, adding that she would hardly buy as many clothes for the same price in Vilnius supermarkets.

Newcomers from other cities are not very demanding: they take everything that attracts attention. And here, according to the store owners, the people of Biržai are already spoiled: they don’t buy anything, because they know that after waiting a few days there may be even better clothes. Replenishment takes place here twice a week.

Those chasing regular discounts and “happy half-hours” are unlikely to find a place here. “We rarely offer discounts on the stock exchanges …,” the businesswoman said succinctly, letting her know that the people of Biržai and guests from the city generally buy products at the original price.

There are also corner clothing stores on every corner, and there is also a central market (read about it HERE), where you can check out clothes at a ridiculous price. When asked if there was not too much competition in such a small town, the businesswoman replied sympathetically: Biržai businessmen share the “territory”, there are enough shoppers for everyone, and sometimes they sometimes go shopping at local stores. others.

“It is difficult, really, we all work here. Each item is a unit to be valued and valued. If the price is too high, people simply will not buy. It would seem that a blouse costs four euros, but sometimes it is too expensive for women. people, ”said the store owner.

We have no doubt that you are curious to know what prices and brands prevail in this store. Therefore, it is possible to find from cheaper fast fashion brands such as Vero Moda, New Look, Forever 21, Jack & Jones, Topshop to some of the most expensive ones such as Cos, Massimo Dutti, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss.

Skirts, sweaters, blouses of different lengths and patterns are priced at 10-20 euros, dresses from 15 to 30 euros. Here, for example, an elegant mid-length ivory Topshop dress, which is perfect for various celebrations, costs € 30. On the label, and the original price, which reaches 68 euros.

The new Gestuz jumpsuit is 35 euros, and its initial price was 239 euros.

“The lowest prices are probably around 60 euro cents for children’s clothing. We have also had nominal bags of 100 euros each, worn but well preserved,” said the store owner.

We asked if bulk retailers are still participating in the “lottery” these days. Will they understand what will happen? In the past, they say, it was the case of used clothing, but now there is an opportunity to look around, choose products.

“We are always trying to offer some new brands to our customers, because if they stopped, the trade would stop,” he said, adding that meeting customer needs was not so easy. “What I find beautiful will not necessarily be beautiful for the client.”
