On Saturday, the Labor Party Congress was held in Kėdainiai, where candidates for the Seimas elections in single-member constituencies were approved.
The congress was also attended by the tall man from “Neptūnas”, who was approved as a Labor Party candidate for the Seimas in the Baltic constituency of Klaipeda.
Born in Klaipėda, S. Galdikas played for Neptune in 2009-2012 and 2013-2015, and returned to the team in the summer of 2017. This year, the center signed a new two-year contract.
In March, when the LKL Championship was ended due to a coronavirus pandemic, S. Galdikas wrote to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports asking how to live during the quarantine period.
In a letter to Vice Minister Cornelia Tiesnesytė, the 33-year-old athlete complained that benefits during the quarantine period are granted only for business, and athletes are left to their own devices.
“Dear. I, Simas Galdikas, the captain of the Klaipėda basketball club” Neptūnas “team, am writing to you as Deputy Minister. As everyone knows, all sports competitions and all events have been suspended due to connection with the pandemic of coronavirus.
We all observe how the leadership of the Republic of Lithuania solves the country’s social and economic problems. We have heard that millions of funds are planned so that the industry and commercial structures slightly “absorb” the economic losses they are experiencing.
What can we do, whose main job is to represent Lithuania in world, European and various international competitions, to fight for the prestige of Lithuania as a state, for the Lithuanians as representatives of the nation, which have not been destroyed by foreign conquerors or decades of occupation and oppression for centuries?
The LKL championship has already ended, the places conditionally occupied have been distributed. Not only basketball is suspended, professional athletes from all sports, representatives of the entertainment world and others have lost their jobs. Many of us have just started our own way of life, raising families, raising young children and buying homes on credit.
What can we do? Then the basketball player wrote.
After receiving a lot of criticism for this publication on the social network Facebook, S. Galdikas deleted it and began to volunteer to visit a nursing home, disinfect buses and do another good job.
Viktor Uspaskich, who was elected party candidate for prime minister, will again lead the Labor Party in the fall election.
