Krepsinis.net portal – traditional weekly show “MISsMATCH”, this time talking to the head of the Lithuanian Basketball League (“Betsafe-LKL”) Remigijumi Mililaumi.
He spoke about the complexity of the decision to end this season on March 13.
“I was well informed, but I didn’t say anything about it at the hearing. I had met with the doctors because they already knew what it was through the disease, what awaited us, our government made quick and emotional decisions. Today, we see that some things are really positive.
When I knew what that disease would bring us, I may not have believed in my heart that it would be so, but it turned out to be true. I also had a conversation with the government people about the quarantine, and Žydrūnas Urbonas came and said: the corridors are closed, they will no longer let us in.
It was like selling land. Why did I vote to close the championship? Because I saw very responsibly that we would have serious problems if we played and were carriers of the virus. Neither people nor other structures will give us that, “says the league president.
He only says that R. Milašius is optimistic and hopes that, at least in Lithuania, club and league losses are not as great as they are sometimes drawn now, when it is about 50 percent. declining finance.
Speaking about the letter from Sigitas Ambrazevičius, the head of Klaipėda “Neptūnas”, which reached the public, R. Milasius smiled so that sooner or later he would discover who published that message, because, according to him, there were really no internal agreements between the clubs during the mentioned meeting.
“Not today, I will know tomorrow. And I will know the last name. There is life here, everything always comes out. Especially, I am a well-informed person and I know a lot. I am a vengeful person, but I will remember it,” he smiled.
The league leader hopes that the passions in Neptune will diminish soon and that the bankruptcy issue will be removed as the situation in Lithuania stabilizes.
R.Milašius added that despite the difficult situation, he has new ideas. Firstly, next season, the league leader would like to broadcast all LKL matches on television, secondly, he has a plan to return basketball to Lithuania much earlier than expected, perhaps even in June.
“On Tuesday, some decisions will be made with representatives from other leagues, where we will try to offer an interesting tournament, cup or summer league.” Here is more of Skaisgiris’ idea. So far it is paper, we will sit at the table on Tuesday and wait for solutions. There is a plan to return in June and it would take 5-6 weeks.
There are no Olympics, there are no playoffs, everyone is interested: the media, television, people, ourselves. Before the sponsors ring again, things would be fine. I managed to speak to 2 clubs, they said yes, there were still 8 ”, intrigued R. Milašius.
You will hear more of his optimistic thoughts on this idea in the second part of MISsMATCH.
