President Gitan Nausda did not plan a trial meeting with Estonian and Latvian leaders on Thursday.

The spokesman for the Head of State Antanas Bubnelis informed BNS that the meeting was planned a long time ago, it was planned to talk about security in the region, measures to combat the coronavirus, problems of the European Union, as well as the non-purchase of electricity in the Astrava nuclear power plant.

Before the meeting of the heads of the Baltic States, the Energy or Economy Ministers failed to reach a tripartite dialogue agreement on a renewed methodology for electricity trade with third countries, said A. Bubnelis.

According to him, the President believes that the negotiations should conclude first, with concrete decisions and the results of the negotiations, and only then should we meet at the highest level and discuss the action plan.

According to A. Bubnelis, the leaders of the Baltic States regularly exchange views and coordinate positions on the items on the agenda of the next planned meeting.

Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid and Latvian leader Egil Levit will meet on Thursday on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia, and the leaders will discuss the EU, regional security, the environment and other issues.

The Estonian President announced that G. Nausda had decided to stay home at the last minute for home affairs.
