“We plan to encourage municipalities and teams to reach 90 percent or more of the number of people vaccinated in this group; we would also see some monetary reward,” the minister told LRT radio on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health (SAM) has also announced that higher rates are approved for the vaccinated population: 12.49 euros for vaccinations at home or in social assistance institutions on weekdays and 24.66 euros for holidays and bank holidays.

The decisions were made after the minister addressed municipalities on Monday, asking them to get vaccinated over the next two weeks for active vaccination at home for people aged 75 and over.

“As we have many different tools with vaccination centers and municipalities across the country, in this case there was an invitation to everyone to allocate our limited resources to this group,” A. Dulkys told LRT radio.

According to the ministry, initiatives are underway to vaccinate the population aged 75 and over with rapidly increasing morbidity rates due to the prevalence of the delta variety, the peculiarities of the fall and winter seasons and the more numerous gatherings and frequent people indoors.

The letter sent by the Minister to the municipalities emphasizes that we are still living in the conditions dictated by the pandemic.

“We have the best tool to control the spread of COVID-19, the vaccine. Unfortunately, we are currently facing a challenge: the decrease in vaccination rates. The insufficient level of immunization in the population aged 75 and over is of special concern ”, says the letter sent to the municipalities.

According to the minister, family doctors and their team members focus on the population, vaccination advice and answers to questions of interest are the most important arguments for making a decision about vaccination.

The Minister emphasizes that community nurses also have a close relationship and have earned the trust of the population, thus encouraging the participation of community nurses in the home vaccination process.
