O. Leiputė spoke about the errors of handling the pandemic and the actions of A. Dulkis on the television show “New Day” of “Lietuvos rytas”.
The most important institutions, without supervision
According to the parliamentarian, the Health Affairs Committee has not been present at A. Dulkis’ visit since the spring and there are many unresolved issues.
“We, as a group, had already called the minister to speak, but it was in the spring session. Now in commission, both a week ago and today, I asked the cartel that the minister still appear, and we could ask questions directly about the heads of the institutions, who are not there, so far we have not seen the minister.
That evidence is due to the fact that it is very important, especially in the context of a pandemic, ”said O. Leiputė.
According to her, in addition to managers, the institutions involved in managing the pandemic – the National Center for Public Health, the Center for Communicable Diseases and AIDS, the National Public Health Laboratory and others – are currently particularly important.
“They have withdrawn in one place, the courts are in another. These are the strategic institutions that are specifically involved in shaping the strategy for managing the pandemic,” the social democrat emphasized.
According to her, this situation in companies is also detrimental to the employees who work there.
“No matter what the institution is, if it has been without a manager for some time, it is obvious that it damages the quality of the institution’s work. I’m not saying that people work badly there, they really do try, but that feeling of temporality and lack of a manager is one of the reasons why it is difficult to predict things ”, considered O. Leiputė.
He did not spare the criticism from Health Minister A. Dulkis, who reportedly shows no desire to meet with members of the Seimas Health Affairs Committee.
“I don’t remember when the minister was on the Health Committee. I don’t know if he visited the big hospitals; they should ask you questions. But when you can ask a question per minute in one hour of government and hear the answer in two minutes, that is too little and you will not call it dialogue.
Vice ministers visit committee meetings, but we don’t really remember when we saw the minister, “explained O. Leiputė.
Wouldn’t the interpellations be ruled out?
He also hinted that the health sector and sanitation facilities are currently “cornered.”
“In parallel, discussions are taking place on the transformation of healthcare facilities, and instead of focusing on service delivery and combat situation management, instead of focusing on treatment facility management and all. the staff are still thinking about their survival.
All this chaos means that nobody wants to organize contests and due to ignorance, people avoid going to such difficult jobs, ”explained the parliamentarian.
According to her, it is not necessary to “act under the rug”, but to openly discuss and speak with medical institutions.
“We will discuss in the group what to do next, but we hope that the Minister, with a sense of responsibility, will come to the Health Committee. <...> I don’t think it will come after the invitation, “expected O. Leiputė.
Asked if the interpellation initiated by the opposition was an issue for A. Dulkis to consider, the Social Democrat said that so far there had been no discussion about it.
“First of all, we think that during such a responsible period, the Minister will draw conclusions about the management of the pandemic. And if we see reproaches to the work and we continue, we will speak it out loud ”, affirmed O. Leiputė.
Still, he said he did not believe changing the minister would solve the problem.
“I think maybe you have to do everything you can first, and that’s just an extreme measure of desperation. The elections to the Seimas have already shown that the change of ministers has not yielded any results.
We also hope that the Minister will listen to the opposition, make those decisions and enter into a more open dialogue, and not just quote numbers and state facts, ”said O. Leiputė.
