Lithuanian motocross team achieved a record result at the World Cup

Lithuania was represented in this competition by three motocross masters: Arminas Jasikonis, Dovydas Karka and Erlandas Mackonis. The Lithuanian national team achieved a record result – ranked 13th.

The last time the Lithuanian motocross team reached the A final was in 2016 and was ranked 19th.

There were three races in Sunday’s race, in which two classes competed: MXGP with MX2, Open and MX2, MXGP and Open. Dovydas Karka drove MXGP, Erlandas Mackonis MX2 and Arminas Jasikonis – Opened lessons. Each trip has 30 minutes and two laps.

Since the first race on Sunday afternoon was for the MXGP and MX classes, David Karka and Erland Mackonis were the first to start. 40 athletes arrived.

On Friday and Saturday, the spoiled sun was hiding, the sky was covered with heavy rain clouds of which it had already rained in the morning. Conditions on the track became unenviable. Not only did the collapsed track make driving difficult, but the dirt kicked up by rivals greatly reduced visibility. David Karka crossed the finish line of the first race in 27th place and Erlandas Mackonis in 36th. The points accumulated for the Lithuanian team guaranteed 16th place.

Although the first race was won by Dan Thomas Kjer Olsen, the sum of the points scored by the athletes of the national team in the race led the French team to the top.

A good half-hour respite for Erland Mackon and he started straight again. Arminas Jasikonis joined the society in the second race.

Forty athletes competed in the combined MX2 and Open classes. The rain did not stop on the track. When the barriers fell, a platoon of athletes stormed into the first corner. Arminas Jasikonis was among the leaders, so he quickly made it past the first turn. Several opponents fell behind the leaders. There are yellow flags on the track.

Erland Mackonis successfully avoided congestion by choosing the inside part of the first corner. On the 1.6 kilometer long track, the participants covered sixteen laps. Armin Jasikonis finished the second race in ninth place and Erlandas Mackonis in 33rd place. Lithuania moved up to thirteenth place, scoring the same number of points with the Finnish team, which came in fourteenth. MXGP star Jeffrey Herlings won the second race and the Italian national team took first place in the national team standings.

The third decisive race, which started with MXGP and Open riders. Lithuania was represented by Arminas Jasikonis and Dovydas Karka, who were ready to complement the selection of points. Get started and act again on the first turn. Unfortunately this time fortune turned away from Arminas Jasikonis, who ran off the track and got stuck on the sand embankment.

There was no time delay, Armin quickly took out his motorcycle, danced on it, and started chasing his rivals. Luckily for him, there was an incident on the second shift.

On the outside of the curve, Armin avoided congestion and reached the middle of the lineup. With each circle, Armin moved up, but not for long. Midway through the race, he lost three positions and fell to seventeenth place. Not cakes and David Karkai, who was in his thirties. At the end of the competition, Arminas Jasikonis crossed the finish line in 14th place, Dovydas Karka in 28th place. The trip was won by Jeffrey Herlings.

The Lithuanian team ranked thirteenth in the overall ranking among the 20 strongest teams in the world in the 2021 Nations Cup competition in Italy at the Mantova motocross track. The hosts, the Italian national team, won the 2021 Nations Cup competition.

“This is the only team competition where motocross masters can represent their country. The results of each athlete are very important in them, since they complement the team’s score. We are happy that thanks to the partners of “Perlo draudimas” the best Lithuanian motocross masters came to Italy to represent the country, and the symbol of the Lithuanian national team among the best athletes in the world. We set a single goal for the Lithuanian motocross team: to reach Final A, among the 20 strongest teams in the world. I’m glad I did it, and in the final competition A on Sunday, Lithuania is thirteenth among the best teams. We haven’t been that high yet, ”said Giedrė Janušauskė, president of the Lithuanian Motorcycling Sports Federation (LMSF).

The Motocross Nations Cup has been held since 1947. This year, the most capable athletes from up to 32 countries in the world gathered there.
The next Nations Cup competition will take place in the USA in 2022.
