According to I. Šimonytė, the government is evaluating the consequences of the increase in heating prices.
“We see that there will be more people who will need compensation to pay their heating bills and other utility bills. Of course, we will evaluate it and the budget will reflect that,” he said.
However, the Prime Minister noted that the number of those people who will need help from the state, according to the Government’s forecast, will be less than in the 2019-2020 heating season.
“Apparently, the reverse phenomenon has occurred here, when people remember the decrease in income for a long time and remember the increase in income for a short time. With prices, this phenomenon works the other way around. But, according to all long-term dynamics, last year due to the global economic situation, oil prices were at an unusually low level. Since the world economy has recovered this year, the rise in oil prices is unfortunately very fast. And the prices of other raw materials rise as a result.
How could the government write off this? All budgeted income items will definitely grow in the next few years. Economic forecasts say that the private sector wage bill will also grow because there is no reason not to.
