The specialist spoke about the coronavirus situation in the country on the Lietuvos Rytas television program “Nauja diena”.

Currently, the death rate from COVID-19 in Lithuania is one of the highest in Europe. According to D.Razmuvienė, this is not related to the effectiveness of the coronavirus treatment, but to the worst health status of Lithuanians.

“People in Lithuania are still not used to taking care of their health. They don’t really invest as much as people in other European countries,” said D. Razmuvienė on the show.

He added that Lithuanians who take very little care of their health are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, according to the epidemiologist, the provision of health services was hampered during the quarantine period.

“A significant part of the Lithuanian population suffers from these diseases. Not only the elderly, we know that the younger ones also get sick. As a result, being infected with coronavirus makes COVID-19 more difficult to transmit, resulting in deaths. significantly higher than in other European countries, ”said an NVSC spokeswoman.

Why die after being vaccinated?

Although the mortality from COVID-19 in Lithuania remains relatively high, D.Razmuvienė emphasized that the effectiveness of the vaccines is not in doubt. An analysis of the data in Lithuania showed that people vaccinated with Pfizer are 5 times less likely to be infected with the coronavirus, and the risk of dying is reduced by up to 20 times.

It is true that deaths from COVID-19 occur among those vaccinated. However, according to D.Razmuvienė, the tragic end of the disease is usually determined by the difficult general state of health of the patients.

“Tales (vaccinated) aut. last.) deaths occur in groups of people who are already a respectable age and who undoubtedly have not one but several complex chronic diseases and make the virus very successful in infecting humans. These people get sick and even die. <...> If we take the situation of the Lithuanian population, we will see that vaccinated people who really had a lot of secondary problems have died ”, explained D.Razmuvienė.

According to the epidemiologist, the delta strain is currently displacing all other COVID-19 strains, and its aggressive properties make the virus spread extremely fast.

Although around 70 percent of the population has already been vaccinated against the coronavirus, D. Razmuvienė stated that the problem is still the elderly population, so the percentage of vaccinated people in this group should be even higher. It is observed that the incidence of the younger population has also increased.

“Looking at the practice in other countries, it is also there, because the delta variety dominates everywhere, the youngest and children are sick in educational institutions. The educational process has started, the spaces have been closed, and we ourselves create very good conditions for the spread of this virus ”, explained the specialist.

It is important to bring the vaccine to everyone

According to her, the chances of vaccination are very great at the moment, but the rate of vaccination is not yet encouraging.

“If we compare ourselves with other countries, like Scandinavia, then the vaccination coverage of the elderly is 100 percent and the total population is 90 percent. This means that as much of the population as possible should be vaccinated. We still have to try and make an effort, we have all come together to work, educational institutions and of course we can say that we are already late, but we still have to make an effort, ”explained D. Razmuvienė.

He added that the number of people suffering from the flu and other colds will also increase during the cold season.

According to the epidemiologist, people should continue to be educated about the benefits and effectiveness of vaccines, but the main goal now is to bring the vaccine to all people who have not been vaccinated.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Everyone who goes to a personal care center should have the opportunity to get vaccinated. Clearly, the logistics are complex because (vaccinations, aut. last.) requires a high temperature regime, but there are still some pockets that can be fixed. The most important thing is that a person can receive this vaccine ”, explained the specialist.

Speaking of the third dose of the vaccine, D.Razmuvienė stated that each country decides for itself the booster dose, taking into account the recommendations of the specialists. Even so, he acknowledged that the entire society of the country will not yet be vaccinated with the third dose.

“Other countries are still waiting for a decision from the European Medicines Agency, but I know that Israel has already started vaccinating another age group. We are still waiting for the conclusions of the experts, but to start the third generation for all at the same time, this will definitely not be the case yet, ”said the epidemiologist.
