Already this year, more than a hundred people have contracted tick-borne encephalitis and more than 500 patients have been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Experts recall that the second wave of tick activity begins in the fall.

Medical entomologist Milda Žygutienė stated that there are no places where we can guarantee that there are no ticks. “If there are fungi, it means enough humidity, and where there is moisture and suitable places to grow fungi, it is also a very good place for mites,” he said.

Doctors are the first to notice the acceleration of the mushroom season. The patients were already inundated with tick removal.

Eugene Preidis, director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic, says that up to 10 people come to pull ticks every day. Obviously, mites do not deter fungi. For several weeks the market stalls were laden with mushrooms. However, people don’t just pull mushrooms out of forest baskets. Frequent bears and ticks.

Doctors warn that removing a tick is not enough. It is necessary to monitor your health, because sometimes, for example, the symptoms of tick-borne encephalitis can appear within a month.

“The tick-borne encephalitis clinic is two-wave, initially there is a fever like the flu, three to four days and passes. After 2-3 weeks, a real clinic develops, when the fever increases, the pains of head, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and tremors in the hands. This is a true clinic of tick-borne encephalitis “, recalls E. Preidis.

Lyme disease is usually caused by a specific spot at the site of the bite. However, if you do not notice it, the disease can be reported after a year.

Experts recall that vaccination is the main means of protection against tick-borne encephalitis. There is no vaccine against Lyme disease. However, this timely disease is successfully treated with antibiotics. According to experts, it is very important that the observed mite is removed as soon as possible.
