Former Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, together with several of his deputies, announced his withdrawal from the largest opposition faction of the Lithuanian peasants and the Union of Allies (LVS) in the Seimas. They will form a new faction. LVS leader Ramnas Karbauskis said he did not feel sorry for it, but said he regretted voters who had been misled by the companies.
The text has been complemented with an infogram of the composition of the Seimas factions, comments from the politicians of the new faction, as well as from R. Karbauskis and a political scientist.
At a press conference held at the Vilnius National Library on Tuesday, it was announced that S. Skvernelis and his group will form a new faction in conjunction with the regular fall session of the Seimas that begins on Friday.
It will be called the Democratic faction on behalf of Lithuania and will work in the opposition.
Full flow of new faction members
The new political groups have been announced:
- former Prime Minister S. Skvernelis;
- former Chancellor of the Government headed by S. Skvernelis Algirdas Stonaitis;
- former Vice Chancellor Lukas Savickas;
- the former Minister of Social Security and Labor Linas Kukuraitis;
- former first vice president of Seimas Rima Bakien;
- parliamentary military Rta;
- Congressman Tom Tomilin;
- Seima nar Laima Nagien;
- Parliamentarian Laima Mogens;
- Member of the Seimas Zenonas Strike;
- The group of members of Mirtautas Seimas, Vytautas Bakas;
- Member of the group of members of Mirios Seimas, former Prime Minister Algirdas Butkeviius;
- Domas Grikeviius, a member of the Mirios Seimas group of members.
So the new group will have a total of 13 members, at least for now.
The largest LVS opposition faction in the Seimas after the withdrawal of S. Skvernelis alinink numbers from 32 to 22 members.
The Myriad Group, which unites non-fractional members of the Seimas, still formally has three members of parliament, so the group of new factions of the three members should disappear from the current parliamentary structure.

We will be a constructive opposition. We want to be a positive mobilizing force, S. Skvernelis said at the press conference.
We are seeing what is happening today in Lithuania in a sufficiently divided and divided state. Unfortunately, this situation is beneficial for many politicians, because the political dividends are chosen during the conflict. Both my colleagues and my colleagues, after long deliberation, decided that they did not want to participate in a policy of division and promotion of conflicts of this kind, from which nothing but the Lithuanian state and its mons were suffering, says the former prime minister. .
The new faction is not a split or artificial political entity, it is simply a merger with like-minded partners and individuals, he added.
On the other hand, S. Skvernelis nratikras, if the new opposition faction will support the new presentation of the partnership-building project in the autumn session, there are many different opinions, many arguments, and the draft is mainly the current commitment of the ruling coalition partners to convince members of the Seimas of the truth of the majority of their position.
The prime minister also said that it was not yet clear whether the future group would sign a cooperation agreement with other opposition groups.
S. Skvernelis stated that on behalf of the Lithuanian Senate of the Democratic faction is not there yet: we will be elected at the first meeting of the faction, which should take place on the evening of the first plenary session of the session. I think all 13 members are in a position to be him. It may or may not be nice, so it may not be how everyone thinks now. We agree to rotate seniors at each session.
When asked if he has more political ambitions, including the establishment of a new party, S. Skvernelis stated that at least so far there is no such goal.
The Seimas elections are still three years away. We will participate in consensus and constructive dialogue with current leaders. And what will happen next is still difficult to say today. But we would really like to avoid any artificial collapse of new political forces, he said.
He spoke louder after the riot
Another former Prime Minister of Lithuania, A. Butkeviius, on behalf of the Democratic faction, reported that the three members of the Seimas had unanimously decided to join the new faction.
7 and 10 members of the LVS faction are not members of the Seimas. The remaining three are political organizations led by R. Karbauskis, R. Bakien, Z. Strike, and L. Mogenien.

Together with our colleagues, we decided to walk a path where we can work in a culture of constructive communication, we value the issues addressed not to party affiliation, nor to loyalty, but to the State, R. Bakien said at the press conference.
In August, S. Skvernelis spoke with the Seimas about doubts about the future of the LVS faction due to the inflexible difference between some of its members. He said that while LVS was in power in the ruling faction, it was possible to adhere to a dignified, solid political force and with a responsible leadership of the government, at that time it could no longer answer what happened when the party turned into opposition.
L. Savickas, an adviser to S. Skvernelis, who left the state faction in the summer after the riots, will also leave the report.
In 2016, the non-partisan S. Skvernelis and LVS participated in the Seimas elections, after the party won them as Prime Minister until December 2020. Last year in parliament, he also ran with LVS.
We are about to provide mystical guarantees
R. Karbauskis said on BNS on Tuesday that he regretted the election, which was misled by those who had left the LVS faction in the Seimas.
There is no regret, except that Mons probably didn’t use the party as much as he could and when he was no longer satisfied with the other’s ambitions, he started looking for something else. Everything is in order, but it is a shame for the voters, who will be fooled by these companies, because most of them are ordered by stream. All that’s left is the hope that they don’t start to behave differently in terms of values, the LVS leader said on BNS on Tuesday.
He said he would receive a request to provide guarantees to the former prime minister.

Now I can only say openly one thing that I did not say before and that I was asked to give guarantees to Mr. Skvernel, and I cannot give guarantees. There is a party that cannot give a kakoki guarantee either, said R. Karbauskis.
K need guarantees? Now I will just look at who will provide those guarantees and in what way. All I can say is that LVS is not the organization that provides some guarantees and I don’t even understand what it takes, he added.
According to the party president, the split was inevitable: it had to happen inevitably, because I already understand that the first thing we did and was the election of presidents, more than 500,000 euros were paid for the electoral campaign to the party’s account, for the campaign to which no member of the party was missing. So apparently they needed us. Now, apparently, we are not so necessary, the rooster, apparently, the other will give those guarantees.
He also says that he was surprised by his colleagues’ discourse on partisan radicalism, because the party has not changed its values and is not changing them.
R. Karbauskis, among other things, stated that S. Skvernelis had the opportunity to join the LVS once and for all, but deliberately did not think about how it would be best for him.
At the time, Vilija Blinkeviit, leader of the opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, said that the split of the peasant faction did not surprise her, which once again showed the inability of this party to work in the opposition.
The disintegration and apparent weakening of the state faction shows once again that when a party loses power, it does not know how to work in the opposition, there are certain disagreements, very little consultation, no speech. The whole of Lithuania has already grown after the defeat of the Seimas elections that the disintegration of the peasantry is inevitable, said BNS V. Blinkeviit on Tuesday.
The opposition does not depend on the opposition. Solutions that are time-honored must be evaluated constructively. The Ms party always acts as a constructive opposition, not only criticizing the ruling, but also blaming certain decisions. I think it will strengthen the constructive opposition, added the leader of the Social Democrats.
According to her, the opposition to the peasants was in the name of the opposition to the Danes.
Political scientists see perspectives differently
Political scientists evaluate S. Skvernelis and his alinink ing as a form of wait and wait, but they view the former prime minister’s perspectives differently. Some say voters love the public and can find them in the new political force with S. Skvernelis, others emphasize that withdrawals are rarely successful in Lithuanian politics.
According to the political scientist, work together in 2016-2020. periods S. Skvernelis and R. Karbauskis could only do it for one reason. How LRT talks about Tomas Janelin, political scientist at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University: Valdia is a very strong drug. It is truly an addictive resource. And when you have tons of power, you can feel like you may not want to lose it.
According to Rima Urbonaits, a professor at Mykolas Romeris University, it would be naive to believe that the new faction will have no ambitions in the next Seimas elections.

A new derivative or an existing one already redesigned certainly cannot be so open. And voters like it if it can be. In addition, you can gather enough serious political figures and at least five can be trained well, says the political scientist.
But Gabriel Burbulyt, a political scientist at Klaipda University, is more cautious about the former prime minister’s prospects after parting ways with LVS. The party led by IR Karbauskis already has its own voter and the election results show that dissidents are having a hard time.
So far, in the last decade, we’ve only had the Free Party success story. She has a lot of purpose for young people, she has worked with a lot of purpose in that direction. We see that it is the youth on the right side. By this time, the young voter on the left is completely unemployed, he says.
The political scientist doubted that S. Skvernelis and his comrades could attract young political couples to youth.
T. Janelin stated that considering the divorce at the end, S. Skvernelis or R. Karbauskis may be a completely different winner.
The rulers will at least be calmer in the sense that the opposition will not be able to gather half the votes or the like very easily. This disintegration of the opposition factions will give the rulers more peace of mind, said the political scientist.
He pointed out that the results of the Seimas elections in 2016 and last year show that S. Skvernelis is more loved by the peasant electorate. At 5 m. S. Skvernelis received 5,000 more preferred votes for party chairman, and in 2020. atotrk nearly tripled.
