Car Repair Car Carolina – About the shock her parents went through, nasty customer comments, and life-shattering stereotypes – I even thought about bringing a diploma.

“I could say that when I worked with cars, my hearing really got worse, because even the slightest creaking can be a new fault,” reveals K. Stankevičiūtė the other side of the auto repair master.

A girl as young as 21 is convinced that we lose a lot by dividing work into men and women, and those who allow themselves to be stereotyped and criticized in vain often do a lot of damage to motivation and an inner voice never inflicted.

“A lot of people thought I was studying automotive engineering just for my diploma. Others thought I was looking for a man in college for me. Right before I finished my studies, most doubted that I could do such a job, they kept asking if I really understood something and who would take me to work. He was very tired of such comments, he always said “Let’s live, let’s see”. I stopped trying to prove something and now I have fun when the results speak for themselves ”, says the interviewee.

He bought books on medicine but kept looking only at machine projects

It was only after beginning to take a closer look when he became interested in mechanics that K. Stankevičiūtė realized that in his childhood, no other of his toys was as cared for, stored and loved as car and motorcycle models.

“Because there was always at least one car in our family, there were breakdowns. I was very interested in what happened, why it broke down, how it could be fixed. In fact, I asked a lot of questions on this topic. I have read many books before to enter the university on engines, parts, mechanisms, failures, “said the girl.

It is true that, thinking about his future career, K. Stankevičiūtė assured that he had been undecided for a long time, where to turn, trying to realize himself in different fields. For example, he took medicine very seriously.

“I have not talked about anything but medicine for a long time. I had bought many books that I would not have opened anyway. I had neither the will nor the desire. I was still watching YouTube machine projects. My parents were always tougher. and I was very closed, filling out applications together where I could go in and study. I thought about it for a long time and after a few days I added another option: that was the technical operation of the cars. It was very difficult to tell them that I had gotten a place to study in the field of machine repair. To them, it seemed like the wrong choice for fear of being overwhelmed. Working on cars is definitely not easy, especially for a woman. It took my parents time to realize that it would not be otherwise. But I really had a lot of tears coming from their support and joy after I graduated from university ”, emphasized the interlocutor.

It has become the biggest motivation for us: we lose a lot to stereotypes.

According to K. Stankevičiūtė, we really have many excellent female brokers, auto mechanics or truck drivers in the world and it is amazing, but it was difficult for her to follow this path, she lacked support.

“It just came to our attention then. A lot of people still haven’t entered the 21st century, they criticize and deprive people of their motivation, their desire to be what they want to be. So I think you always have to try. If you want to, it means you should. Even if you don’t succeed, at least you know you tried, “the girl is convinced.

Over time, she assured me that she realized that it was up to you to decide whether you wanted to be what you dream of or what others wanted to see you. K. Stankevičiūtė admits that he has discovered his happiness and today he really does not want to change anything.

“My biggest motivation was myself, because I knew that if I wanted to, I could do it. I tried as hard as I could and with that work came a lot of people who are happy for me and will always be there if I need it. There have always been and there will always be people who do not like how you look or you look, even if you are the best, “said the interlocutor.

Only 3 girls graduated

When asked what his first weeks of study were, K. Stankevičiūtė recalled that his studies were very interesting and stressful.

“The teachers received it very well, I did not feel any pressure, everyone was evaluated, prepared and received equally. We also had some amazing female teachers, although of course mostly male dominated. He wasn’t used to being among so many men when there were so few girls. We were originally 5 years old, but in the end we only finished 3, ”he said.

The girl had no major problems with science, she liked physics better and challenges, remember, they were only caused by welding classes.

“I’ve never done that in my life, it seemed like something from the realm of space. When you weld it, it seems to have made your eyes really good, but the master just bows his head and realizes that you have not done anything good here. At one point, I was even willing to drop everything, but I’m glad my friend put me off about it. And indeed, even in the near future, I see myself finishing welding courses. That failure interested me even more, that is why I want to delve into that issue, “said the interlocutor.

Reproduced that I will not repeat the same 5 times, because I will soon forget it yet.

When asked what her job as a car repairman really is like and what her main responsibilities are, K. Stankevičiūtė explained that she had worked with her husband most of the time. mechanics, learned from them. It is true that she herself had to look for errors, change filters, install and balance tires, refill air conditioners, prepare reports.

“In fact, I learn something new about cars every day. Just as you drive your car, it seems that you keep hearing new sounds, you are going to explain what it is. Engines have always fascinated me the most, to be exact, gasoline engines. The most pleasant work is when you repair, put everything in its place and everything works perfectly again. As unfortunate as it is, it is truly rare. The most difficult thing is when there are still endless problems in the handling and you realize that everything will take longer than planned, “he said.

K. Stankevičiūtė is pleased that all colleagues have received her with kindness and kindness, although there have been several surprises. For example, she said that she once fell while lifting a truck tire, which was too heavy, but those around her only taught and encouraged her. However, customers don’t always look at a woman in a garage as well.

“At that time, I did an internship, worked in auto service administration, where I ordered auto parts, accepted and delivered machines, and filled out fault sheets. And a customer has just arrived whose car broke down. At that time everyone had lunch, I was the only one left. I asked him what had happened, what topic was going on, but his first question was where are all the staff. I explained that I can help, others have lunch. But he said he would wait for someone who knows the job to come along. I told him that he could really tell me that he would fill out a sheet and give it to my husband. to the mechanic, but he replied very unpleasantly not to repeat the same thing 5 times because he would still forget what he said right away. It was very unpleasant. Although, apparently, it was not even strange to me. He was an older man who probably still thinks that the woman’s place is next to the pots in the kitchen. It is very sad that people do not want to accept innovation and education ”, recalled the interlocutor.

Looking for a new car, going to a rally, and opening his own car repair shop.

Although he studied in Kaunas, now K. Stankevičiūtė lives in Šilutė, where his lover came from. He is currently on paternity leave, but hopes to return to work in the near future.

“I am delighted to have received so much support and trust. She and her husband have had to repair their friends’ cars. That trust is a very high motivation to really support and accept you as a professional. However, there are also bitter experiences, when I just had to prove that I really was an automobile engineer, I even thought of taking a diploma when I got tired of arguing, “recalled the interlocutor.

Asked if it is not difficult for two auto repairmen under the same roof, she assured that everything is there, but in the end she manages to complement each other’s thoughts and find a common position. The two do not rule out the idea of one day opening their own car service and intend to participate in the rally.

“Currently, there is a rally closer than the opening of the service. I am passionate about participating in it and I am also looking for a new car. I’ve been dreaming about this for a long time and I keep telling everyone about it. I even guessed that I would get mad, I think. Since I have my chief mechanic right away, I support, too, it remains to enter this area. And service has been our dream for a long time, to this day we still have to wait a bit, however, it is not a small investment, you have to think about everything and then do it, ”says K. Stankevičiūtė.
