It is true that in the second half the basket finally separated for the young Lithuanians, so in the middle of the match the teams only obtained 6 points (23:29).

However, after the break, the Lithuanians ran aground again and could not score points for almost 8 minutes. It is true that the professionals did not shine in the attack either, so before the last quarter the Lithuanians had a deficit of 13 points (29:42).

With just over a minute and a half to play, France led with 53:42, but the Lithuanians did not give up. With accurate long shots, they narrowed the gap to 4 points (51:55). Still, there are 34 seconds to play. France’s national team leader Alexandre Sarras scored two points, and desperate Lithuanian throws flew over the country, with the victory finally being celebrated by the French basketball players.

The FIBA ​​Challenger tournament this year became the unofficial European Championship and replaced the official priorities of the Old Continent not organized due to the coronavirus.

The U16 men’s tournament took place in 4 European cities with 31 teams competing. Lithuanians competed in Skopje, North Macedonia, as well as Sofia, Novi Sad, and Pristina.

Although they lost in the final, the Lithuanians achieved the most important goal: they won the right to play in 2022. U-17 Basketball World Championship.
