A Belarusian who has fought in a mixed martial arts (MMA) ring in recent years has been accused of injuring two officials during protests last year against the illegally elected Aliaksandr Lukashenko.
The athlete denies his guilt. He admitted to hitting the officials, but claims that he was forced to use the necessary defense. Even before the trial, Kudin apologized to the injured officials and reimbursed his expenses, but did not save the athlete.
During the arrest of A. Kudin, the fighter was reportedly beaten, his chest was hit with rubber bullets, his hands were handcuffed for a long time. A. Kudin received medical help only when he was unconscious.
After the protests in Belarus, Kudin went to Russia. The European Court of Human Rights has urged Russia not to extradite Kudin to Minsk because the fighter would face persecution and torture there, but the Russians did not listen to the court’s opinion. According to The Guardian, the transport of Kudin across the border looked more like a kidnapping than an extradition.
