180 migrants were returned to Belarus
On Monday, the Interior Minister signed a decision on the massive influx of foreigners on the Lithuanian border from Belarus.
According to the SBGS commander, this decision came into effect on August 3: “The High Representative of the Belarusian Border was authorized through the established channels,” he reported.
According to R. Liubajev, since the entry into force of this decision, border guards have not allowed more than 180 illegal immigrants to enter the country.
According to him, migrants cross the border in all sections, but especially in the Varėna section.
“Where state border violations occurred most all the time. These are the border sections of Druskininkai, Aleksandras Barauskas and Gintaras Žagunis”, clarified R. Liubajevas.
Officials, according to him, on his authority, assess each situation individually.
“I can’t really comment on tactical decisions at this time, because each of us has to exercise authority. On a case-by-case basis, officials make decisions about the use of deterrence or other sanctions,” he said.
The SBGS commander reports that so far no special measures have been taken to turn the migrants around: “They have not been admitted during the organization and physical activities.”
It is reported that no provocative actions by Belarus have been observed in response to Lithuania’s actions.
Illegal immigrants are reversed
Lithuanian border officials detained and returned dozens of illegal immigrants to Belarus on Tuesday night, Deputy Interior Minister Arnoldas Abramavičius told LRT radio on Tuesday.
According to him, these cases occurred in the districts of Švenčionys, Šalčininkai and Ignalina. Rokas Pukinskas, a representative of the State Border Guard Service, told the delfi.lt news portal that several illegal groups had been returned.
In some cases, border guards were assisted by military police and dog cynologists were used.
The Interior Ministry said in a Facebook account on Tuesday that it had evidence that “Belarusian officials are involved in organizing illegal migration.”
“On Sunday, an illegal group of immigrants was escorted from the Frontex helicopter participating in the operation in the Šalčininkai district, accompanied by an agency car and the people who were in it.
Vehicles of this model are used by officials of the Belarusian State Borders Committee, “says the entry.
