Kasiulevičius urges everyone to get vaccinated with the third dose of the vaccine sooner: “Let’s not be under any illusions that people who have been vaccinated will not get sick”

On Sunday, the vice dean of the VU Faculty of Medicine, prof. Vytautas Kasiulevičius.

“I hope that this message reaches the ears of the government and the experts who advise it.

May the people of Lithuania receive the third dose !!!

SAM’s decision to vaccinate people with severe blood diseases and kidney failure is a good one, but its impact on managing the epidemic is very small, covering less than 0.1 percent. populations.

Let’s not be under any illusions, even in Uruguay, “only” 73 percent of the population had been vaccinated, not to mention Lithuania, where the voice of the anti-waxers sounds from all irons, and some current and future members of the Seimas carry politics. Capital for future elections. The more unvaccinated people in the country, the faster the pandemic will spread as the delta variety spreads like chickenpox.

Let’s not be under any illusions that vaccinated people will not get sick. I have said before that vaccinated people get sick and even die. The U.S. Center for Communicable Disease Prevention and Control estimates that 210 of the 1 million vaccinated in the United States will become ill each week and 1,790 of the 1 million unvaccinated.

How can there be less morbidity among vaccinated people?

A smart person understands that vaccines protect against disease 8.5 times better than anti-vaccinator propaganda, but a smart person will also ask another question: what can be done to make the number of people vaccinated even lower?

There is already sufficient evidence that anti-Covid-19 antibody levels are correlated with the risk of Covid-19 infection and disease. The more antibodies, the lower the chance that a vaccinated or naturally ill person will become infected and become ill.

There is disagreement about one: the antibody threshold, below which the risk is much higher. And in those circumstances, that is the subject of the agreement. If we choose, p. Eg SARS-CoV-2-anti-S IgG antibodies against the needle protein limit of 300 BAU / ml, we will make a small mistake. Let’s just decide that anyone with less than 300 BAU / ml antibodies to needle protein should get vaccinated if at least 6 months have passed since their second vaccination. We don’t have vaccines, let’s agree on a lower threshold, but let’s do it.

If queuing is necessary, priority should be given to those over 60 (Israel has already done so and has already vaccinated its president with the third dose of the Pfizer vaccine), doctors, nursing home residents, teachers, police , etc.

We will not have other vaccinations without spring, no one will solve even the ventilation problems, the children will go back to the schools longing for communication, the “white collars” will go to the offices, and the carriers, according to the Statistics Department, do not intend to get vaccinated. In the situation of November 2020, and the attempt to shut down the country will end in a government crisis.

Therefore, one thing our country can still do before next winter is to get vaccinated, and the fewer people who get vaccinated, the greater the argument for vaccinating those who are afraid, ”wrote V. Kasiulevičius.

The ministry allowed a third vaccination for seriously ill patients

The portal tv3.lt recalls that the Ministry of Health (SAM) has given permission for the third dose to be vaccinated to certain groups of patients who have weakened immunity.

An additional dose of COVID-19 is expected to be available in end-stage chronic kidney disease patients receiving continuous renal replacement therapy (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis).

An additional dose will also be administered to patients with a blood disease who are being treated for a blood disease or complication, or who have been treated for at least 24 months. or actively monitored for blood diseases.

Revaccination is also planned for people who have undergone organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplants.

It is true that the possibility cannot be ruled out that in the future the third dose of COVID-19 could be administered to more people: the elderly with chronic diseases.

“More groups of people are being considered. But the position has not changed: we are currently awaiting investigations and recommendations from manufacturers, the European Medicines Agency and the European Commission. If we do not get them, national decisions can be made. If necessary , we will, ”said Aistė Šuksta, Advisor to the Minister of Health.

At the same time, it confirmed that, as promised, the antibody pools relevant to these decisions were being examined.

“It just came to our attention then. Research is being carried out for certain groups and we plan to receive the results probably next week,” said A. Šuksta.

When asked to specify which groups they belonged to, the counselor reported that the first people to be vaccinated in Lithuania, the medical community, were being screened.
