The Lithuanian U16 women’s team has started preparations for the FIBA ​​Challenger tournament, which will start in Spain on August 9. Currently, fourteen Rokas Kondratavičius students play sports in Anykščiai.

“The work is in a very good mood. We are happy that all the girls have met, there are no micro or more serious injuries. It can be said that we met with the strongest lineup, the girls came motivated, you can see their work before the camp, ”said U16 girls coach R. Kondratavičius.

In preparation for the FIBA ​​Challenger tournament, the coach emphasized the lack of time, as the tournament starts next Monday.

“It is a challenge for both the coaches and the players. There are many ideas on how to play, but I understand that we have ideas to simplify, to implement only the most important things. I think it will be strongly determined by the individual abilities of the players. No there’s a lot of time to prepare, it’s hard enough getting the team together. “

Speaking about the upcoming FIBA ​​Challenger tournament, R. Kondratavičius noted that a difficult match awaits him.

“We know that there will be very high-level teams in the group where we will play. I wonder what the teams will be like because it is difficult to get material on them. However, we look at ourselves first,” said the team strategist.

The U16 women’s team coach R. Kondratavičius emphasized that the most important thing is to look at the closest competitor and only during the course of the tournament will it be possible to decide on their ability.

“The tournament will be held on the principle of playing with a new team every day. Our goal is to look at the closest opponent, and only after the match to look at the next opponent. The team’s goals will be seen over the course of the tournament. , because we know a lot about our competitors ”, R. Kondratavičius emphasized the unpredictability of the tournament.

The Lithuanian U16 women’s team will begin their fight at the FIBA ​​Challenger tournament on August 9, with a match against Croatia. Subsequently, the Lithuanians will be received by Hungary (August 10), Serbia (August 11), Spain (August 13) and Ukraine (August 14).

Coaches Martynas Gailiūnas and Milda Sauliūtė, physical training coach Andrius Birulinas and physical therapist Dominyka Prakapaitė work alongside female U16 head coach R. Kondratavičius.

This year’s FIBA ​​Challenger tournament became the unofficial European Championship and replaced the official priorities of the Old Continent that were not organized due to the coronavirus. The U16 women’s tournament will be held in 5 European cities with 29 teams competing.

Lithuanian matches in San Fernando, Spain, as well as tournaments will take place in Helsinki (Finland), Matosinhos (Portugal), Piestany (Slovakia) and Tbilisi (Sakartvelas).
