Luxury and poverty of the 18th cabinet of ministers: managed counted wealth

[ad_1]

According to the State Tax Inspection, after accounting for the assets managed by the Conservative and Liberal coalition government, last year the members of the Council of Ministers declared a total of assets of 2,544,985 euros. The financial liabilities of the ministers with the banks amount to 744,232 euros or 29.24 percent of the total declared value of the assets.

It should be noted that these assets do not accrue from the salaries of the ministers – politicians who took office in December 2020 declared the assets they managed in 2020, when they held previous positions – in the Seimas or in the public function.

The impact of ministerial salaries on your assets will only become apparent in the summer of next year, when the asset management statements are released in 2021.

The richest are conservative ministers

The richest in the government are the conservatives. Its assets amount to 1,927,435 euros, or 75 percent of the total assets declared by the ministers.

The Minister of Energy, Dainius Kreivys, declared the highest amount of assets, for a total of 609,193 euros. Most of the assets consist of the value of a real estate property, up to 554,263 euros.

However, the richest minister is also squeezed by the largest debt: it amounts to 285,785 euros or 46.91 percent of the declared value of assets.

The second richest in the Government is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis. Declared assets of 386,682 euros. Assets consist of real estate and the value of the land.

And the total value of the property managed by Gabriel and his wife Austėja Landsbergienė last year amounted to 16 million 702 thousand 398 euros.

During the year, the value of assets increased by 2,195,519 euros. In 2018, the Landsbergis managed 1 million 873 thousand assets worth 268 euros.

Third place is again held by the Conservative Deputy Prime Minister, Ingrida Šimonyte. He declared himself in possession of an estate worth € 277,625, consisting of a car worth € 20,000, a property and a piece of land.

The prime minister says she has a loan of 63,194 euros, which is 23 percent of the property’s value.

Compared to 2019, political assets have more than doubled to € 108,970 from the declared value of € 168,655 in 2019. However, this increase is not related to I. Šimonytė’s new position: the politician will state how the position of the Prime Minister will change managed assets only in the spring of next year.

The conservative Minister of Social Security and Labor, Monika Navickienė, responsible for pensions, benefits and unemployment benefits in the country, declared assets of 256,500 euros.

If we convert these assets into the average old-age pension in the country, then the Minister has assets as much as the average pension received by 58,181 older adults in the country who have worked more than the time of service required for the basic pension. Ms. Navickienė also claims that she has a loan of 77,938 euros.

However, together with the property managed by her husband Mindaugas Navickas, the property of M. Navickienė’s family amounts to 711,162 euros.

By converting this amount into an average old-age pension, up to 161,627 Lithuanian retirees would receive it in one month.

In the four years since the start of the current minister’s great political career, Navicki’s wealth has doubled, since the then MP declared a value of € 360,331 in family assets after his first year at Seimas.

Conservative Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Šiugždinienė personally manages the property for 199,000 euros.

But the family of politicians is really a millionaire: together with the property managed by her husband Raimondas Šiugždinis, the minister declared assets of 1 million 133 thousand 50 euros. Compared to family-managed property in 2019, it grew by almost a third last year, to € 390,871.

Other conservative ministers – poorer: Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys has assets of € 117,180, Agriculture Minister Kęstutis Navickas – € 63,911, Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė distributes the country’s budget – € 46,019, National Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas – 18,950 euros. The latter’s asset is a car with the same declared value of 18,500 euros.

Neither house nor money, really?

Even three ministers of this Government – the conservatives A. Anušauskas and the Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė and the president of the Freedom Party, the Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė indicate that they do not have any property in their name.

Furthermore, A. Bilotaitė and A. Armonaitė declare that they have no assets to declare, only some savings: A. Bilotaitė – 49,360 euros, A. Armonaitė – 12,000 euros.

However, in the family of the leader of the Freedom Party A. Armonaitė, the spouse Edgaras Stanišauskas took over the living space and other properties. It is true that for the ownership of this policy – far from the assets managed by the conservatives: in total, the family declared the property for 45,300 euros.

The Minister of National Defense A. Anušauskas declares that he has a loan of 12,413 euros. The amount of money kept in the bank of A. Bilotaitė increased by 12,000 euros during the year.

However, the question arises whether the Minister of the Interior, who is currently trying to overcome the communication crisis caused by the refugee crisis, has in fact indicated his actual financial situation.

In his declaration of ownership, A. Bilotaitė does not provide data on the property managed by his father of two children and fiancee Gintas Petraus, although it is required by law.

G. Petrus, 16 years older than the minister, is one of the richest men in Lithuania. In 2019, he was ranked 263 among the richest people in the country, and his wealth was later valued at 16 million euros.

G. Petrus is the founder of the Neptūno vandenys company. The man who sold the business five years ago had recently taken parental leave.

The wealth of the coalition party ministers is more modest

The Environment Minister, the liberal Simon Gentville, declared the property for 223,100 euros. The minister affirms that he will also have a loan of 186,926 euros, which is equivalent to 83.78 percent of the value of the assets under management!

Compared to 2019, the assets of the Minister of the Environment decreased by EUR 74,549 during the year. And the debts have increased: up to 55,676 euros a year, from 130,150 euros to 186,926 euros.

In a statement presented to the Chief Ethics Commission, the Minister of the Environment S. Gentvilas states that in 2020 he took out a loan for the construction of houses. The statement shows that this loan amounts to EUR 56,676.

Gentville says it got another loan, € 133,600, in 2018. The latter claim to have donated € 3,350 so far.

The assets declared by the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Freedom Party, Marius Skuodis, last year amounted to 121,065 euros. It consisted of a property owned by the Minister. The minister’s wife, Rita Skuodienė, has a similar property. Both spouses have a loan of 40,000 euros each.

Another Minister of the Freedom Party, the Minister of Justice Evelina Dobrovolska, declared assets for 72,000 euros, and the Minister of Culture delegated by the Liberal Movement Simonas Kairys for 156,885 euros. The latter is overwhelmed by a loan of € 77,976.

In addition to financial obligations to banks or other credit institutions, eight of the fifteen living ministers note: G. Landsbergis, J. Šiugždinienė, A. Dulkys, E. Dobrovolska, K. Navickas, G. Skaistė, A. Bilotaitė and To Armonaitė.
