“Its arrival is associated with new winds, new inspiration at Klaipeda Drama Theater. There was a huge boost when it arrived,” T. Juuo told BNS on Sunday.
P. Gaidys, who died on Sunday, worked as an actor and director at the Klaipėda Drama Theater from 1963 to 1998, then directed it for three years.
From 2001 to 2016, P.Gaidys was the artistic director of the theater.
The director has created more than 80 performances.
T.Juočys emphasized that Klaipėda Drama Theater is 86 years old, so P.Gaidys worked on it for more than half of his life.
“It just came to our knowledge then. There are not many such figures in the theater, but he was not alone and there was potential and a very good ensemble at his side,” said the director of the dramatic theater.
“Father Gaidys himself has raised and educated many actors. He was never ambiguous and always knew how to give the best to the theater and educated his students to do the same,” recalled T. Juočys.
According to him, P. Gaidys had a very good sense of humor: “He doesn’t understand if he was serious or joking. It was very interesting to be with him as a person, as a personality. “
Taken from the movie / Povilas Gaidys also starred in the movie “Elze de Gilija”.
“Sometimes he spoke with anger, but he was not angry, it was irony. It was necessary to know Povilas Gaidis well so that you could understand him,” said T. Juuoys.
When asked about P. Gaidis’ artistic contribution, the director of the Klaipėda Drama Theater stated that it was of “historical significance”.
“P. Gaidys was especially sharp in Soviet times, when that sharpness was undesirable. He was brave,” said T. Jučys.
After leaving the position of artistic director of the theater, P. Gaidys starred in two more roles. The latest was the tragicomedy “Parade,” which appeared in 2019.
P. Gaidys was often called a master of comedy in the art world.

According to T. Juitis, the director thus appointed was not in vain.
“This genre is the most complicated, so that name was not assigned just for him. He really was a master of his work,” said the theater director.
P. Gaidys died at the age of 85.
He was awarded the LSSR State Award in 1979, received the Officer Cross of the Order of Gediminas in 2002 and the Golden Stage Cross in 2014.
From 1971 to 1995, P.Gaidys taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music at the Klaipėda faculties, and since 1995 at the Klaipėda University.
