The barbed wire barrier for concerts on the border between Lithuania and Belarus must be covered more than 500 kilometers.
“It is such a double barrier that I think it is a very necessary, very important decision, a good start. I think on the one hand it will start to stop illegal immigrants and on the other it will play a deterrent role in terms of various possible hybrid attacks, ”NSGK President L. Kasčiūnas told reporters alongside the concert.
However, this, he said, is only the beginning.
“I think there should be elements of the fence and there should be a concert on it, that would be the best solution,” emphasized L. Kasčiūnas.
According to him, the installation of the entire stage is expected to be completed in about three months.
“It just came to our attention then. That is what is being done,” said the politician.
Next, L. Kasčiūnas pointed out, a fence should be built.
“Let’s understand one thing: the fence is not for the free world. We are defending the fence of an authoritarian regime that tries to destroy the free world. This must be avoided, that is why a physical barrier is needed,” said the parliamentarian.
According to L. Kasčiūnas, the price of such a fence would reach 50 million euros.
“Establish a fence model with a concert hall. (…) We are talking about the entire border with Belarus. Not only is all this needed, but detection systems and surveillance systems are included. The physical barrier must interact with the technology ”, explained the president of NSGK.
This, he said, is a matter of half a year or more.
Sees the danger of a concert: medical attention must be provided
However, NSGK member Dovilė Šakalienė pointed out that the concert might hurt some people.
“The fence will hurt the people who will still try to climb it. We have seen material that some people go at night, and the age ranges from a newborn to 80 years, ”said D. Šakalienė.
As a result, he said, it is necessary to guarantee full electronic surveillance of the border.
“If a pregnant woman or a woman with a baby in her hands is standing here, it will only be necessary to move her through this wall. I would be looking forward to that second stage, when a fence will be built and the concert will be at the top. , at night people will not fall on this wall with their own hands ”, explained the politician.
Already now, noted D. Šakalienė, there are people with health problems among illegal immigrants.
“We will also have injured people, additional capacity will be needed here as well,” he emphasized.
“The best way not to get hurt is not to climb during the concert. (…) We build deterrence. When you go up, you are in charge. Don’t climb, “L. Kasčiūnas commented on D. Šakalienė’s words, although he recognized that a concert on top of the fence would be the best solution.
Encounter with illegal immigrants: surprised requests
NSGK members met and spoke with detained illegal immigrants crossing the state border in the Druskininkai border section.
“Immediately, in my opinion, such baseless accusations – about wanting better food. I wasn’t very interested in their diet, but they say they have shipped an assortment, so I ask the question as soon as someone sends the assortment to Lithuania illegally.
If you are a war refugee, it is natural that when there are no bombs on your head and no one is terrifying you, you have to be happy, ”said L. Kasčiūnas.
While he was trying to talk to illegal immigrants and started asking questions about Germany, immediately, as L. Kasčiūnas said, several immigrants raised their hands and said that they wanted to go to Germany.
“They asked me if you were organizing trips to Germany. I asked him if he wants to go to Germany and what ten hands. (…) It is understandable, his objective is Western Europe, we are a transit country, but we are doing everything possible not to open one new transit route ”, said the president of NSGK.
The politician also said that there should be more information on the return of illegal immigrants in the fall: several people have asked to return to their countries of origin already voluntarily. According to L. Kasčiūnas, there should be more of them.
