At the Prienai District Municipal Council meeting on Friday, politicians, after hearing last year’s Club Prienai report, which was presented by club director Adomas Kubilius, disagreed with him. The councilors were outraged that the club had poor financial management, despite significant financial support from the municipality, and that the club used the municipality’s sports infrastructure for free.
Board members asked about players’ debts and other issues. From the general context, it can be understood that the club has more than 200 thousand. debt in euros.
It was also indicated that for the new season, the club still does not have a general sponsor, and the municipality will not cover its debts by increasing its support.
The club director said talks with potential sponsors for the new season are underway, but there are no written agreements yet.
We remind you that for the season it is necessary to collect a minimum of about 450 thousand. euros.
One of the options, filing for bankruptcy, was also mentioned at the council meeting. These types of languages are very strange since more and more municipalities are looking for opportunities to have teams in the highest basketball league.
According to Kvitrina.lt, which has not been denied by the club’s shareholders, the club is negotiating with a foreign basketball agency to support potential players and sponsors, which it has not yet been able to name.
Recently, the mayor of the Prienai district municipality, Alvydas Vaicekauskas, and the club member Virginijus Šeškus met and discussed the situation. From the post-interview comments, it was clear that all steps are currently being taken to form a team for the new season.
