Armplast is located on Rainbow Street, and its founder, Česlavas Sokolovičius, immediately says when we arrive that spelling the street name is often a difficult task for foreign partners.
Outside, right next to the main building, there is a boat packed and ready to ship, and the manager begins by explaining that a state company was previously established in Šalčininkai under a different name, and gliders in Prienai, and he was the director of one from them.
“I was the director of that state-owned company in Šalčininkai for 10 years. Then the Soviet Union collapsed, the market left,” he says, assuring that he later founded his own company and that his first product was a catamaran for the Olympic Games.
The company still manufactures here boats, more precisely, fiberglass products, and the main products of the company, as named by the manager, are boats, motorboats, motor catamarans and other products for sport and leisure and various products. fiberglass other composites for automotive, industry, construction, medical equipment.
“Our products are found in 26 countries around the world,” he adds, but as you can see, man’s greatest joy is shipbuilding.
“We produce sports boats that are used for world championships, as well as rowboats, boats with the name” Emily “, because we are in the village of Emiliškės. Now we are preparing a batch of boats for France ”, he praises.
Speaking of technical products, the man says that his main partner here is the UK.
“They make special machines and we send them 20 to 30 special kits every week,” he says.
Today the men’s company has 30 employees, four of whom, as specified, belong to the administration.
“It just came to our attention then. If Lithuania does not allow people from other countries, we will have big problems, now the locals are working. Four people are from Šalčininkai, others from the surrounding villages,” he says.
“I want to show you several ships,” urges Česlav to go soon and leads to the facilities where the ships are being assembled and warns that there will be dust and unpleasant odors.
Pointing to the sea ship, he explains that he will travel to the United States and another to Scotland.
According to him, the joint venture makes containers in two ways: using a mold and using vacuum infusion technology.
“This mold is painted, coated with paint, and then layer by layer is manually formed out of plastic. In that plastic metal, etc. is formed, everything that is needed, and then everything is taken out of the mold with a certain color.
A cover is made for the passport and so everything is connected and the boat leaves ”- he says about the production of a sea boat and ensures that the assembly of a boat of this type takes up to 2 more days, so two people build the whole ship. in 4 days.
It is true that the company now has so many orders that it is unpredictable to work, which is possibly related to the savings that people have accumulated during a pandemic.
Taking me to one of the boats, the man says that he will go to France, and those boats are not very popular in Lithuania because, as he implies, he cannot afford it often.
“There are 6 places, class – C, wave up to 2 meters.
We sell several of them in Lithuania every year, but we do not focus on Lithuania or advertise. If the people want, they will find us themselves ”, says the businessman, saying that such a boat without a motor with VAT costs around 9 thousand. Eur, and the motor can cost the same amount.
“If this boat is sold in France with a 100 horsepower engine, I think it will cost at least 20 thousand. EUR. It is difficult to say if it is a luxury or not ”, reflects the man and also says that it would take about a week to make one.
When asked how the company is doing here in Šalčininkai, where there are not many bodies of water, Česlav laughs and shrugs.
“It seems strange to me that the company is here. There are no lakes here, only streams, but boats are made and it is not a pity to show them, ”he says.
It is true that the founder of the company himself says that he does not have his own boat and explains that neither the ships nor the boats pull it.
“It doesn’t appeal to me in any way, I like sails better and it turned out that we don’t make sailboats,” he laughs.
Now the company is expanding, repairing the facilities and, according to Česlav, in a year the company will employ twice as many people and produce many more boats.
“I hope that sooner or later our government realizes that it is necessary to admit more people from abroad.
They don’t have to live here, but Belarus is close. Could you come here to work until Friday, leave the house on Friday and come back on Monday? Might. It would benefit everyone and we do not allow it. The locals receive so many benefits that they don’t want to work, ”says the man.
And there is no need for special training for workers to build boats, as they say.
“It just came to our attention then.
If there was a desire, I would also teach you to make boats ”, the businessman jokes and says that when you look at the product it seems very complicated, but when everyone is divided things are much simpler.
