It will be easier for residents of our country to travel within the European Union after the introduction of the EU COVID-19 certificate, also known as a “green passport”. This certificate can already be withdrawn by residents of some countries, such as neighboring Poland or Germany, and should start in Lithuania from next week.

As Deputy Minister of Health Živilė Simonaitytė told Delfi rytas, the European certificate will be visually similar to the Lithuanian passport of opportunities.

“It will contain a QR code with basic information: name, surname, date of birth, information on immunity. It is planned to be removed from the e-health portal. This means that the person who has logged in will be able to obtain a certificate there. Which also It is very important that family doctors will be able to issue this certificate to people who have more difficulties using information technologies ”, Ž. Simonaitytė.

The deputy minister noted that Lithuanians can now travel to other countries, taking into account the requirements of that state and the isolation and quarantine rules.

“It is very important to bear in mind that until now each country has different requirements when evaluating its epidemiological situation. Therefore, before you choose to go to another country, you should check the information about the specific conditions in that country. (…) It is really possible to go not to those countries that have already implemented it, but also to others, only going to those that already have it is that additional convenience ”, Ž said. In this app, travelers can find information on the various coronavirus protection measures in place in the country, including quarantine or testing requirements for travelers, as well as whether the country has an EU digital covid certificate and mobile apps. alert and follow-up of coronavirus contacts.

Frequently updated information is available in 24 languages, including Lithuanian.

The app also includes a map of coronavirus morbidity in the European Union, based on two-week morbidity and mortality rates provided by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Color the countries in different colors, from green to indicate a morbidity rate of less than 25 cases per 100,000 population, to dark red to indicate that the rate has exceeded 500 cases.

Travelers can choose the complete route by choosing the destination, seeing what restrictions apply in each country of transit they will have to cross.

When passing through the country in transit, it is also indicated how long it is possible to drive through the territory without stopping. In Poland, for example, EU citizens traveling within the Community are not subject to any temporary travel restrictions and it is necessary to travel through Slovakia without stopping for more than 8 hours. Only refueling is allowed.
