The initial call to the General Assistance Center at 112 was received at 2:16 p.m. on Sunday.

Rescuers were informed that Icelandic pl. 32 “Mega” burns.

According to preliminary data, the roof of this shopping and entertainment center on the outskirts of Kaunas was on fire. Dark smoke rose into the sky, which was visible not only from the Vilnius-Klaipeda highway, but also from many surrounding areas. However, the initial information was not true: the container actually burned.

The people were not injured at the time of the incident, according to preliminary data.

Ieva Goštautaitė-Gedutė, Deputy Director General of the UAB Baltic RED, which runs the Mega Shopping and Leisure Center, was quick to inform the public that nothing terrible had happened.

The fire did not break out on the roof, as it seemed at first, but outside, in a container near the roof.

“We would like to inform you that the Mega shopping and leisure center is operating normally. In the inner courtyard, in the outer area, smoke is formed, according to the primary data, near the container next to the roof. The situation is resolved, the most precise reasons are being explained and we thank the services that responded promptly, ”the report quotes one of Mega’s executives.
