After electing the government – members of the Seimas and they don’t like him, to remember them – is it possible in Lithuania and would people support it? This public survey decided to find out the Presidency.
On Tuesday, G. Nausėda did not stop answering journalists’ questions about the population survey. The poll asked whether citizens should have the right to recall elected Seimas members of parliament. There are also responses: 82 percent of respondents say they would like such rights, only 7 percent answered negatively, 10 percent did not have an opinion.
“It just came to my attention then. It is difficult to comment on such a poll,” Seimas president Viktorija Čmilytė – Nielsen told LNK.
Political scientists are surprised by this question posed to the public. Not just on this topic, but on whether it was deliberately omitted or not. The survey was conducted some time ago, but the problem was only known on Tuesday.
“In this case, it is also interesting that we did not find out about that survey right away. Apparently, I guess maybe the president was embarrassed or worried. That he doesn’t know the fundamentals of political science itself, “said political scientist Saulius Spurga.
Others say the survey itself shouldn’t cause storms. The head of state must know public opinion and expectations. And the idea of withdrawing the members of the Seimas is not new.
“I think polls are always good. And the head of state must know. I certainly cannot say that I disagree, but that is the subject of debate. This is not a new discussion, it is fading or being reborn, “said Aušrinė Norkienė, the largest of the opposition faction Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS).
Conservatives believe that yes, although it is important to know public opinion, these polls do not solve problems. And the wording of the question is debatable.
“To my understanding, the questions may not be completely accurate, in a sociological sense. And they may not be detailed enough, they are more relevant to people’s emotions,” said Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, the senior member of the Union faction. National – Lithuanian Christian Democrat (TS-LKD).

“Withdrawal of a member of the Seimas as such, I find it difficult to imagine how it could happen. Because people express their will in the elections. When the members of the Seimas do not like it, they simply do not elect them. In a sense, this is a cancellation every four years, ”said TS-LKD elder, LNK.
Still, political scientists say that such a question from President Nausėda’s people is strange and does not correspond to the president’s status. The removal of parliamentarians could be imagined unless in the Soviet Union.
“I can jokingly say that he could have asked: should we abolish the Seimas and redeem some members of the Seimas? We would see what the answer would be,” said S. Spurga.
The president of the Seimas stated that she did not really imagine the “revocation mechanism in a western democratic state.”
“We have an accusation of the members of the Seimas, it has been used more than once. But the most important mechanism is the elections,” V. Čmilytė – Nielsen told LNK.
There were up to 16. In the presidential poll. Residents also asked about coronavirus vaccination, tax measures, and the Istanbul Convention.
Valatka: It is incomprehensible to me.
Reviewer Rimvydas Valatka strictly evaluated the presidential polls in the “Informational Comments” program.
“It is incomprehensible to me and here there are probably more psychotherapists, the object of study of the followers of Sigmund Freud. Neither journalist nor political commentator. Those who say that Bill Clinton also spoke through polls, but asked mostly American opinions, for which no one knew the answer. And in this case, the polls are conducted on such common human issues, in which society is not divided, but all kinds of margins are especially divided, “said the critic on the program.
The interlocutor said that asking these questions reminded him of the desire to squeeze society.
“When I read that SNB report, the first thing I thought was that the provocateurs of special services in dictatorial states were doing it. Then comes the moment when the Ukrainians called the word ‘tituška’, specifically accentuating people so that their results still they may be popular, they are not fully advanced, they do not live in the 21st century, “he said.
R. Valatka said that if Vytautas the Great had asked the Samogitians if they wanted to be baptized, most Samogitians would have answered “no”.
“The president is moving into that area and he wants to turn it into a political argument where the people are in a moment of change. After 10 years, they will be completely irrelevant, newly established, society is changing. And such a feeling that the president wants to reject that society back to the past ”, explained the critic R. Valatka.

He told the “Information Comments” that the questions posed by the Chair “should not be of much interest.”
“The president should be interested in things like completing the reform of the health care system, for example. Or if we talk as much as possible about the welfare state, we can raise taxes in general so that we can build it better. In other words, the president should asking people at the polls for advice on how to move forward. And now one of those questions seems to be how to step on the ground or look back, “said the interlocutor of the program.
R. Valatka stated that the questions show that “the president does not know the Constitution and the laws of Lithuania.”
“There are no problems with the expulsion of a member of the Seimas from the Seimas. If the Seimas undermines the oath taken to the nation and violates the Constitution, it is automatically removed from the Seimas through impeachment. (…) The mechanism is. Who needs to push through the open door, if it is already clear that a person can be taken out of the Seimas. It may be worth it for G. Nausėda to hire another former judge or expert from the Constitutional Court (CC) to give him a course of 16 conferences on Constitutional Law and State Administration ”, R. Valatka presented his position.
He assured that the issue has a specific entity: a parliamentarian.
“It is clear here that this is for Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius, a member of the Freedom Party. Speaking of him, I imagine that Valdas Adamkus would stand next to him and say that he cannot be despised in this way because his sexual orientation is different from mine. It is the president who acts as the provocateur of Vladimir Putin’s FSB, or the Ukrainian “title” who comes to the rally to attack those who are already being attacked by the army, security and police. This is not the presidential level. I would even say that this is not a level of political margin, “said the interlocutor.
He said that G. Nausėda was “constantly lying”.
“When he came to power 2 years ago, he swore to the Lithuanian people and said that from now on the Presidency would be open to all. Many measures have been taken since then so that that Presidency is open only to all kinds of nationalists, people who want to discriminate against other people on the basis of gender, race or anything else. It is clear that the action when you try to hide 2 questions from journalists, when you have found 14 questions yourself, is proof that G. Nausėda is the enemy of an open Lithuania ”Explained R. Valatka.
