Stanley Balzek, one of the most prominent Lithuanian public figures in the United States, died

Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius expressed his condolences to his family, friends, Lithuanian communities in the United States and the world for the death of S. Balzek on Friday night.

“His long-term work for Lithuania and the preservation of Lithuania in the world will remain in the memory of all of us,” the minister wrote in his condolences.

President Gitan Nauseda also expressed his condolences for the death of Balzek Jr. on Friday night.

According to the President, S. Balzek was a sincere friend of Lithuania, who strengthened Lithuania in the world with his life and works.

“I express my deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased, to the Lithuanian community in the world and to all those who appreciate their ideals. May his memory be our obligation to continue the work of preserving and promoting Lithuania throughout the world, “says the President’s sympathy.

Stanley (Stasys) Balzek was born in 1924 in Chicago, graduated from De Paul University, was president of Balzekas Motor Sales, and in 1966 founded the Balzek Museum of Lithuanian Culture in Chicago.

He was a member of the Lithuanian American Democratic Party, the Lithuanian Foundation, the American Chamber of Industry, as well as a member and vice president of the Lithuanian American Council.

Since 1989, he has chaired the advertising and public relations agency Archer International, has advised American officials on national cultures and their relationships, and in 1990 established and chaired the Chicago-Vilnius Town Friendship Committee.

Since 2000, S. Balzek has been the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Florida.

S. Balzek received the Cross of the Commander of the Order of Gediminas for Lithuania in 1996, and the Cross of the Commander of the Order of Merit for Lithuania in 2016.

He was also awarded the Vytis gold medal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “For the merits of Lithuanians in the world to Lithuania” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for special merits to encourage Lithuania abroad, participation in the Lithuanian life and the creation of prosperity in Lithuania.
