3.63 million have been offered for the abandoned Druskininkai sanatorium “Nemunas”. euros: they are likely to be converted into apartments

Arinela, a company indirectly owned by Mindaugas Vanagas, owner of real estate developer Citus, won the auction for the complex, which the city council tried to sell for 13 years.

According to M. Vanags, the Nemunas Sanatorium is located in the very center of Druskininkai, bordered by many parks, a lot of greenery and the future conference center.

“Maybe it was even a bit strange that it has been out of stock for so long, but probably due to its size, because it is exceptionally large, there are few companies in Lithuania that could develop such a thing. Of course, the price went up during the auction, but the cost per square meter was really very attractive, ”M. Vanagas told BNS.

According to him, what is being installed in the complex is currently under consideration.

“We do not have final plans yet, we will think, we will create, but one part will probably be an apartment, and the other part we will see.” (…) There will be both apartments and rent (apartments – BNS). We are always trying to find some more interesting contexts, it is still in the creative stage, but I think we will definitely do something in a few years for this complex to decorate Druskininkai ”, said M. Vanagas.

According to him, more specific plans are scheduled to be presented this fall and the entire project will take three to four years.

Diana Sinkevičiūtė, Chief Specialist of the Municipality’s Department of Tourism, Communication and Culture, informed BNS that two participants participated in the auction, and it was won by the Arinela company.

According to her, the funds received will be used for the construction of a modern cultural center.

Antanas Kišūnas, head of the Ober-haus Housing Department, says the former sanatorium is likely to be converted into apartments.

“That building has a perspective from the context of what is currently happening with the reconstructions of the recreation bases in the tourist cities: they are being developed and sold as apartments. This, too, is likely to be the future of this building: either its purpose will be changed or it will be sold as a vacation home. This building is definitely not bought here for health services, ”A. Kišūnas told BNS.

According to him, the pandemic and teleworking have caused a huge demand for second homes in the country’s tourist centers.

“The main reason for all the fuss in this auction is the attractive location near the center and the pandemic, because there is a high demand for housing in the tourist complexes. Today, the phones are not silent in Druskininkai and Palanga ”, said the real estate expert.

“People have learned to work remotely, and for those who do not want to buy a house, a getaway to the tourist city is an attractive opportunity, because people can spend time surrounded by nature, use the pleasures of the spa, the spas or, in the case of Palanga, have a sea on your desk, “said A. Kišūnas.

At auction for 2.59 million. The initial price of 16.5 thousand euros and 1.3 thousand euros was put up for sale. and 1.5 thousand. kv. meters of building and a plot of 2.15 ha on Liepų street.

The twelve-story sanatorium was built in 1966-1970, it had a thousand. dining room and concert hall with capacity for 800 people, cinema, library. The sanitarium, which has been operating at a loss since 2000, closed in 2007 and moved to the city in 2008.

The reconstruction of the annex, formerly part of the sanatorium, which was a dining room-restaurant, began in 2019.
